WTA Washington Final Prediction: Anna Kalinskaya vs Leylah Fernandez

The 2025 WTA Citi DC Open final is set and pits Canada’s Leylah Fernandez against Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya in a clash of unseeded players vying for a significant WTA 500 title in Washington. Both players have played some amazing tennis this week and will aim for one last push. As always, we at LWOT will offer our prediction for the final. But who will lift the trophy?

Anna Kalinskaya vs Leylah Fernandez

Head-to-Head: Kalinskaya 1-0 Fernandez

Anna Kalinskaya needed a week like this to get her season back on track after a rough first six months. This is her first final of the season, and she has advanced without losing a set. Kalinskaya was more consistent and played with controlled aggression to beat the in-form Emma Raducanu in the semifinals. She is chasing her first WTA singles title, having lost the last two finals; she will hope the third time is the charm.

Leylah Fernandez demonstrated great resilience in overcoming a gruelling match against Elena Rybakina in the semifinals, which lasted over three hours. There were three tiebreaks in the match, with Fernadez winning the last two in inspired fashion. She is in her seventh career finals and first of the season. Fernandez is looking to win a first title since 2023 and fourth overall.

These two met earlier this season, where Fernandez retired mid-match after losing a close first set. The Canadian’s ability to absorb pace and redirect shots could frustrate Kalinskaya, especially if she maintains her high first-serve percentage. However, Kalinskaya’s aggressive baseline game and powerful backhand will allow her to dictate points, and I expect her to remain composed and bring her best level to win her first title. It should be a close match, but I am going with the Russian player in this final.
Prediction: Kalisnkaya in 3
