Hamad Medjedvovic, at 21 years old, may just be the next big thing for Serbian tennis. That is a pretty bold statement considering the fact that the current big thing in Serbian tennis happens to be Novak Djokovic, who is a 24-time Grand Slam champion. Will Medjedovic be able to achieve big things is yet to be seen but there are early signs he may be on the right track.
The Novak Djokovic Connection
The 21-year-old Serbian is closely involved with Novak Djokovic and that is something that can never hurt any tennis player. Djokovic was responsible for covering Medjedovic’s tennis related expenses and that would have been a huge confidence boost to the young player just starting out. Some have gone on to call Medjedovic Djokovic’s protégé.
Never Say Die Attitude
In the short time Medjedovic has been on the main ATP tour, he has thoroughly impressed everyone with his never say die attitude. That mindset is critical in big moments and it is rarely cultivated in a tennis player, it is just innately there. The young Serbian showcased that perfectly when he took on and defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas earlier this year in Doha despite being severely restricted in his movements.
2025 Season
His career has progressed in the right direction in 2025 with the 21-year-old achieving great milestones. He broke into the top 100 on the back of his good showing in the Challenger events in early 2025 and then kept moving up. He currently stands at 61st in the world and with his game evolving by the day, top 35 may not be too far off for a goal in 2025.
Medjedovic reached the final at the 2025 ATP Marseille Open, defeating Grand Slam champion Daniil Medvedev on the way. Since then he hasn’t managed to win a lot of matches including a first round exit at the ongoing Madrid Masters but there is plenty of hope in the fight he is putting up even in his losses.
The Future
No one can predict the future but right now Hamad Medjedovic is looking like a pretty decent bet to make it big in the world of tennis. His game and mentality are there for him to catch the eyeballs in the tennis world and it is only a matter of time when he does so. 2025 will be a key season for Hamad Medjedovic and hopefully when the season ends, he will be a player on a lot more people’s radars.
