Four More Players Withdraw From 2025 BNP Paribas Open Indian Wells

The main draw action at the 2025 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells begins on Wednesday. We at LWOT already reported on five players that withdrew from the prestigious Masters 1000 tournament in California. Four more players have removed themselves from the entry list since then. This article names the players who decided to withdraw and their replacements on the entry list.

Which Players Have Withdrawn?

Marketa Vondrousova was one of the players to withdraw from the BNP Paribas Open. She returned from six months out with a shoulder injury at the start of the season. The 2023 Wimbledon champion’s last match was a loss at the Dubai Championships to eventual winner Mirra Andreeva. Vondrousova seemed fully fit in that contest and no official reason has been given by anyone in her team for her decision not to play in Indian Wells.

Karolina Pliskova also decided to withdraw from the BNP Paribas Open. The two-time Grand Slam runner-up has been injured since retiring from her US Open match against Jasmine Paolini in August. Pliskova underwent surgery on her left ankle a few days later, and it is unknown when she will be fit enough to return to the WTA Tour.

Anasasia Pavlyucknova was another who withdrew from the entry list for the WTA 1000 tournament. The 2021 French Open runner-up released a statement in an Instagram story that confirmed she has been struggling with a viral infection since the Australian Open. She hopes to be recovered in time for the Miami Open later this month.

Nicolas Jarry was the sole ATP player to withdraw from the BNP Paribas Open. He injured his toe at the Chile Open in Santiago and is still in too much pain to compete in Indian Wells. Hopefully, the injury is not severe, and he can return in time for the Miami Open.

Who Replaces Those Players On The Entry List?

Caroline Garcia is set to play at the BNP Paribas Open due to Pavlyuchenkova’s withdrawal. The 2022 WTA Finals champion has struggled for consistency in the last few years since winning the season-ending tournament. However, her powerful game remains among the most dangerous when it clicks, meaning other players may want to avoid her in the draw.

2020 Australian Open Sofia Kenin replaces Pliskova. The American played well during the Middle Eastern swing, especially at the Dubai Championships. She beat Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini and Donna Vekic to reach the quarterfinal. The 26-year-old will hope to replicate that level in front of her home fans in Indian Wells.

2022 Wimbledon semifinalist Tatjana Maria has taken Pavlyuchenkova’s place at the BNP Paribas Open. Although the 37-year-old has mostly struggled for form during the last 12 months, her unique playing style is awkward for anyone to face. Despite those recent struggles, Maria shows no signs of wanting to hang up her racket, proving how much she loves the sport.

Learner Tien benefits from Jarry’s decision to withdraw. The American was initially among four players given a wild card for the tournament, but he did not need it in the end. Tien generated headlines at the Australian Open in January by defeating Daniil Medvedev in a five-set thriller.
