Learner Tien has won four of his last five matches. This week in Acapulco, Tien qualified for the main draw tournament, winning both qualifying matches in straight sets. Tien won against Norrie in straight sets in the opening main draw round. Tien trailed 4-5 in the opening set, but broke Cameron’s serve right away and got the job done in tiebreak. After that, in the second set, Tien dominated until the end and deservedly won straight sets. Learner secured his biggest win in the second round against Zverev. He won in straight sets, playing his best tennis.
Tomas Machac has won four of his last five matches. The last match he played before the ATP 500 Acapulco was in Dallas two weeks ago. So far this season, Tomas has played in the United Cup, at the Australian Open, and in Dallas. It is his first appearance in Acapulco. In the opening round, as we predicted, Machac won against Mensik in three sets. Tomas defeated Altmaier in straight sets in the second round, as we predicted. Around this time last season, Tomas played in Dubai, losing in the opening main draw round against Bublik in three tight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Machac is the favorite in this matchup, and we agree. Tien is playing his best tennis, but Tomas is still a better player. Machac has more experience playing at the highest level, and we expect him to be a better player tonight.
That being said, Machac winning is a value bet.
