Denis defeated Kecmanovic, Fritz, Machac, and Tommy Paul en route to the final. Before the ATP 500 Dallas, Denis had never won an ATP 500 title. It is his third appearance in Acapulco. In the opening round, Denis won against Basavareddy in straight sets. He saved a set point in the opening set. Denis defeated Michelsen in straight sets in the second round, as we had predicted. He was the better player from the start until the end.
Marcos Giron has won four of his last five matches. His last match before the ATP 500 Acapulco was in Delray Beach, where he reached the quarterfinals. Marcos lost against Kecmanovic after winning the opening set 6-2. So far this season, he has not had any remarkable results. It is his fourth appearance in Acapulco. He has never made it past the quarterfinals in Acapulco. As we had predicted, Marcos won against Walton in straight sets in the opening round. Tommy Paul withdrew from the second round against Marcos.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Denis is the favorite in this matchup, but we disagree. Both players played well this week. Marcos is a dangerous player on fast, hard courts. Denis lost his serve a couple of times against Basavareddy and Michelsen. We expect a tight match that could go either way.
