Here in Adelaide, the Frenchman successfully qualified for the main draw tournament. In the opening main draw round, Bonzi won against Tu in straight sets. Thanasi Kokkinakis has won four of his last five matches. Kokkinakis has been granted a wild card this week in Adelaide. Being an Australian, Thanasi will have the crowd on his side. Thanasi defeated Nishioka in three tight sets in the opening round, as we had predicted. Today, in the second round, as we predicted, Kokkinakis won against Etcheverry in three tight sets. His last competitive matches before Adelaide were at the Davis Cup, where he showed great tennis, winning against Shelton and almost upsetting Matteo Berrettini. At the end of the 2024 season, Thanasi played in Sydney at the Challenger tournament, where he won the title without dropping a single set.
Sebastian Korda has lost three of his last five matches. Here in Adelaide, Korda looked great in his opening match against Davidovich Fokina, winning in easy straight sets. The last match he played before the ATP Adelaide was at the US Open last August. Korda underwent surgery on his right elbow, which is why he skipped the second part of the 2024 season. Last year in Adelaide, Korda reached the semifinals, losing against Lehecka in straight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Kokkinakis is the slight underdog in this match, but we disagree. He has played more matches this season, and we believe that he is currently in better form than Korda. With the crowd on his side, we expect him to qualify for the semifinals.
