ATP Australian Open qualification final
Garin – Dellien: 09.01.2025 01:00 CEST
H2H: 4-1
Christian Garin has won three of his last five matches. In his first tournament of the season, Garin failed to qualify for the main draw tournament in Hong Kong, losing against Yevseyev in the first qualifying round. Here in Melbourne, Garin won straight sets in the first qualifying round against Dellien Velasco. Today, in the second qualifying round, the Chilean defeated Djere after spending over two hours on the court. In the deciding set, Djere had a chance to close out the match as he was up 5-4 and served for the match. However, Garin stayed calm and turned the match around by winning three straight games.
Hugo Dellien has won four of his last five matches. This is the first competitive tournament of the season for him. In the opening qualifying round, Dellien defeated Marterer comfortably in straight sets. Today, in the second qualifying round, Dellien defeated Kasnikowski in three sets after losing the first set 3-6. Hugo is a solid clay-court player, but he never had any success on fast courts like this. Last year in the Australian Open, Dellien lost in the second qualifying round against Mayot in straight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Garin is the slight favorite in this matchup, and we agree. Christian has struggled with his form for a while now but is still a better hard-court player than Dellien. Hugo Dellien had a favorable draw so far, but we believe he will fail against Garin in the final qualifying round.
That being said, Garin winning is a value bet.

Tien – Kovalik: 09.01.2025 02:30 CEST
H2H: first meeting
Learner Tien has won three of his last five matches. In his first tournament of the season, Tien lost in the opening round against Norrie in straight sets. Here in Australia, Tien defeated Barrere in three sets. A young American was on the verge of losing the match, trailing 3-4 in the second set. However, he successfully turned the match around. Today, in the second qualifying round, Tien comfortably defeated Ficovich in straight sets.
Jozef Kovalik has won three of his last five matches. Here in Melbourne, Jozef won his first qualifying match against Bernard Tomic in straight sets, as we had predicted. He was a better player from the start and offered no breakpoints. Today, in the second qualifying round, Jozef defeated Holmgren in three tight sets, as we predicted. Kovalik spent most of the 2024 season playing at the Challenger Tour level. Last year in Melbourne, Kovalik lost in the first qualifying round against Bellucci in three tight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Tien is the big favorite in this match, and we agree. Kovalik played solid two matches, but he hit his ceiling. Tien is an upcoming star, and we believe he will be a better player on the court tomorrow and win comfortably.
That being said, Tien winning in straight sets is a value bet.
