Former World #1 Daniil Medvedev announced to the tennis community on Tuesday that he has welcomed his second child after his wife of a decade, Daria, gave birth to their second child just before the start of the Australian Open.
Fans had been speculating about Medvedev’s absence from the new year’s kickoff at the fore-running tournaments for the Australian Open, but the reason is now evident. The 28-year-old, who ended the 2024 season ranked number five in the ATP standings, posted an image of himself cradling the newborn with his daughter Alisa by his side. The beaming father’s joy at welcoming a new family member was unmistakable.
This latest addition to the Medvedev household coincides with the tennis star’s preparations for the year’s first Major tournament.
Although he did not secure any titles in 2024, Medvedev has used the season’s close to focus on and prioritize his family.

Medvedev last played on November 14, 2024, when he lost to world number #1 Jannik Sinner in the Nitto ATP Finals round-robin stage.
He will be seeded fifth at the upcoming Australian Open, meaning he won’t face any of the top seeds until at least the quarterfinals.
