ATP Tokyo Best Bets Including Nishikori vs Rune

Kei Nishikori ahead of ATP Washington

ATP 500 Tokyo quarterfinals

Machac – Michelsen: 29.09.2024 06:30 CEST
H2H: 1-0

Tomas Machac has lost three of his last five matches. Two weeks ago, Machac played in the Davis Cup, where he retired mid-match in both of his matches. Here in Tokyo, Tomas looked fully fit on the court. Machac won against Popyrin in three tight sets in the first round. Machac was great under pressure, saving all four breakpoints. Today, in the 1/8-Finals, Machac defeated Paul in three tight sets. Last year around this time, Tomas spent his time playing at the challenger level tournaments, where he had decent success.

Alex Michelsen has won four of his last five matches. Here in Tokyo, Alex won his first qualifying round match against Uchiyama in straight sets. Michelsen served well, not offering any breakpoints. In the final qualifying round, Michelsen defeated Coric in straight sets as we predicted. Alex won his firstround match against Tsitsipas in straight sets as we predicted. In the 1/8-Finals, Michelsen won against O´Connell in straight sets as we predicted. This has been the best season for the young American, who is looking to cement his top 50 status.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, this should be a 50-50 match. Michelsen showed incredible tennis this week, and we believe that he is one of the dark horses of the tournament. We believe that he will continue in that fashion, and win against Machac.

That being said, Michelsen winning is a value bet.

Nishikori – Rune: 29.09.2024 11:00 CEST
H2H: first meeting

Kei Nishikori has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Chengdu, Kei lost his opening match against Shang as we predicted. Shang ended up winning the tournament as we predicted as well. Here in Tokyo, Kei defeated Cilic in three tight sets. Here in Tokyo, Kei defeated Thompson in straight sets in the 1/8-Finals. Nishikori loves to play on fast courts such as this one. He is slowly, but surely returning to his best form.

Holger Rune has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in Hangzhou, Rune was the first seed, but lost his opening match against Uchiyama in straight sets. It was another poor performance from the young Dane, who lost his top 10 status recently. Here in Tokyo, Rune defeated Tabilo in his opening match. Today, in the 1/8-Finals, Rune defeated Nishioka in straight sets as we predicted. Last year around this time, Holger played in Beijing, where he lost in the second round against Dimitrov in straight sets.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, Nishikori is the slight underdog in this matchup. We believe that he will have a decent chance against Rune in front of his own crowd. Rune has been struggling with his form lately.

That being said, Nishikori winning is a value bet.
