ATP 500 Tokyo 1/8-Finals
Thompson – Nishikori: 27.09.2024 03:00 CEST
H2H: 1-3
Jordan Thompson has won three of his last five matches. Two weeks ago, Jordan played in the Davis Cup, where he represented Australia. He has played only one singles match, and lost it against Carreno-Busta in three tight sets. Here in Tokyo, Jordan defeated Ruud in the opening match in straight sets as we predicted. This has been the best season for him. Jordan achieved his career-high ranking of 29, and won his maiden title in Los Cabos, earlier this season. He loves to play on the fast courts such as this one. Last year in Tokyo, Thompson lost in the second round against Shelton in three tight sets.
Kei Nishikori has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Chengdu, Kei lost his opening match against Shang as we predicted. Shang ended up winning the tournament as we predicted as well. Here in Tokyo, Kei defeated Cilic in three tight sets. Kei had his biggest result of the season in Montreal, where he reached the quarterfinals, losing against Arnaldi in straight sets. Nishikori loves to play on fast courts such as this one. He is slowly, but surely returning to his best form.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Thompson is the slight favorite in this matchup. Kei has played a lot of matches recently, and he looked exhausted at the end of the match today. Thompson loves to play under these conditions, and we believe that he will win this match easily.
That being said, Thompson winning is a value bet.

Fils – Berrettini: 27.09.2024 11:00 CEST
H2H: first meeting
Arthur Fils has lost three of his last five matches. Last week, Arthur represented France in the Davis Cup. He lost two matches, and won only one. Fils had his biggest results on clay this season. Here in Tokyo, Fils upset Fritz in the opening round in three tight sets. Around this time last year, Fils played in Shanghai, where he lost against Tommy Paul in the third round of the tournament. Arthur is close to getting into the top 20, so he is hoping for a decent result this week in Tokyo.
Matteo Berrettini has won four of his last five matches. Last week, Matteo represented Italy in the Davis Cup competition. He won all three of his matches, and helped Italy. Here in Tokyo, Matteo won against Van de Zandschulp in straight sets in his opening match. Considering his injuries, Berrettini did not play many matches this season, but has done a great job in almost every single tournament. Matteo played four championship matches, and lifted three titles this season.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Berrettini is the slight favorite in this matchup. We believe that Matteo is a better player than Fils under these conditions. Berrettini was consistent throughout the whole season, and we expect him to continue in that fashion.
That being said, Berrettini winning is a value bet.
