Renata Zarazua in action ahead of WTA Sao Paolo.

WTA Berlin Qualifying Best Bets Including Maria Timofeeva vs Renata Zarazua

WTA Berlin qualifying concludes on Sunday. The WTA Tour moves to Germany for this 500-point tournament with Wimbledon now just two weeks away. Some players might play next week, but for a lot of WTA players, WTA Berlin will be their last week of tour play before Wimbledon. They will take next week off to rest. The players who lose in these qualifying matches are the ones who will compete in tournaments next week so that they can get some match play before going to the All-England Club. These matches will decide a lot of players’ plans in the near future. LWOS has our best bets for three matches. Post your best bets and thoughts in the comments.

WTA Berlin

Frech – Zhang: Time 7:30 EST

H2H: 2-2

Magdalena Frech faces Shuai Zhang in Berlin. Both players are in the top 65 of the world rankings, with Frech 21 spots higher (43 to 64). Both players won the first round of qualifying in Berlin, neither against highly ranked players. Frech was playing her first match since Roland-Garros. She did not play this past week at either Queen’s Club or Hertogenbosch, the two main tour events in the first week of the grass season. Zhang is 3-1 in the grass season, including her win in qualifying on Saturday. Her other two wins in qualifying rounds were last week at Queen’s Club. This match is a good test of both players. It will indicate how ready these players are for the rest of the grass season.

Best Bet to Make

This is not an easy match to call, mainly because neither player has played a large number of matches on grass this year. Neither player has faced elite competition on grass, making this an important test for both Frech and Zhang. We are going to lean Frech moneyline, mostly because she took last week off and was able to regroup after the French Open. Zhang had to play qualifying in Queen’s Club, then travel to Berlin and make that transition. Zhang’s qualifying wins were not against strong opposition, so the fact that she has two more grass wins than Frech in 2026 doesn’t really mean that much. Frech moneyline doesn’t carry an amazing price, but it’s a decent one.

That being said, betting on Frech winning is a value bet for sure.

Kudermetova – Kraus: Time 7:30 EST

H2H: 0–1

Polina Kudermetova faces Sinja Kraus at WTA Berlin. Both players are ranked outside the top 90 on tour, so they are in difficult positions in terms of automatically qualifying for a lot of the important tournaments on the calendar. They are both looking for a few really good weeks, which will increase their ranking and give them a chance to earn a lot more prize money during the year. They both lost their most recent matches and hope to generate momentum this week in Germany.

Best Bet to Make

This is an over 2.5 set bet. Neither player has a great track record on grass, and neither player has played a large number of grass matches this season. Neither player is highly ranked, and neither player won her last match. This looks and feels like a very uncertain match in which momentum will shift, and one player is not expected to completely dominate. Kudermetova is the betting market favorite, but Kraus won 6-2, 6-2 over Kudermetova earlier this season in the one head-to-head meeting between the two players. This feels like a three-set match. You always get a great price when betting on a three-setter.

That being said, betting on over 2.5 sets is a value bet for sure.

Timofeeva – Zarazua: Time 7:30 EST

H2H: 0–0

Maria Timofeeva takes on Renata Zarazua. Timofeeva is the betting market favorite for a very obvious and logical reason: Zarazua has lost her last six matches. She is clearly struggling. Zarazua is ranked 16 spots higher than Timofeeva, 77 to 93, but she is clearly not playing like the superior player, so the markets like Timofeeva. Whereas Zarazua is coming off a string of losses, Timofeeva is riding a five-match winning streak due to winning the WTA 125 tournament at Makarska earlier this month. Timofeeva has played 27 clay matches this year, Zarazua 13. This is a grass match, so we mention those numbers just because Timofeeva’s winning streak might not mean all that much, since it occurred on clay and not grass.

Best Bet to Make

Timofeeva has played so much on clay this year that she might indeed be unprepared for grass. Zarazua has obviously been struggling, but against an opponent who puts so much energy into clay tennis, this match on grass might work to her advantage. You could bet on over 2.5 sets, but we think there’s a real opportunity here to take the underdog for a fat price. Zarazua moneyline carries a lot of potential here, and we think it’s worth going for it.

That being said, betting on Zarazua winning is a value bet for sure.
