After years of having a high peak level but not hitting it enough to break through, Rebecca Sramkova finally got that Rome run earlier this year and is now into her first WTA Tour semifinal. To get there, she needed to survive some thrillers, especially the more than three-hour-long clash with Sara Sorribes Tormo. How much will she have left for this one? A grinder like Lucia Bronzetti will demand a certain standard of physicality from the Sramkova, and having played a few WTA finals before, the Italian seems like the slight favorite to make yet another one. The experience and less time spent on court might be a big asset for the only seed left in the event here.

Eva Lys vs Sonay Kartal

Things are clearly moving in the right direction for Eva Lys. The German made her second WTA Tour semifinal in Budapest just two months ago, and now she’s into her third. This week, she also delivered a big upset over the top seed and two-time defending champion Elise Mertens. What’s maybe even more impressive is that she managed to back it up with a very good quarterfinal performance as well. Meanwhile, Sonay Kartal is 42-7 this year with her ITF Tour domination and how she was struggling to take it to the next level. She’s finally done it this week and is looking just as strong. Lys is an opponent who won’t be able to overwhelm her and that usually ends poorly for whoever the Brit plays of late.
