Better late than never! Because of the rain on Monday, some of the men on Day 3 of Wimbledon will be playing two matches in the same day. And even though these matches were set on short notice, we here at LWOT are going to offer our predictions on them. We also have predictions for the matches that were set on time, in articles featuring Casper Ruud vs Liam Broady and Wimbledon Day 3 Predictions Including Novak Djokovic vs Jordan Thompson. Prediction these matches are Yesh Ginsburg, Shane Black, and Damian Kust. Who do you think will win?
Wimbledon Day 3 Men’s Predictions
Hubert Hurkacz vs Jan Choinski
Yesh:
Choinski may be a British hero for his Round 1 success, but the party is likely to end very quickly. Hurkacz is excellent on grass, and even though he’s not currently in top form, he’s going to be good enough to not have trouble with the wild card.
Prediction: Hurkacz in 3
Shane:
Hubert Hurkacz has a game ideally suited for the grass, and he showed that in his dominant first-round win over Albert Ramos-Vinolas. British wild card Jan Choinski is now 1-0 in his main draw Slam career after a win over Dusan Lajovic. That said, he does not have the firepower nor returning prowess to keep up with the No. 17 seed.
Prediction: Hurkacz in 3
Damian:
Almost an all-Polish matchup with Choinski’s father coming from Poland and the 27-year-old being fluent in the language. They actually play a fairly similar style, more defensive than you’d expect with the big physical frame. Choinski’s not comfortable on grass though and that should give Hurkacz an easy win here.
Prediction: Hurkacz in 3

Stan Wawrinka vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry
Yesh:
Etcheverry had to finish a match in the morning and then comes back later Wednesday to try and take down Wawrinka. The Swiss isn’t doing amazing in his current injury comeback and has never loved grass, but he’s progressing solidly enough. I don’t know if fatigue will be a factor for the Argentine, but I’m also not positive it matters.
Prediction: Wawrinka in 4
Shane:
Stan Wawrinka is on the brink of reaching his first Wimbledon third round since 2015. The veteran is playing confidently after picking up a solid Round 1 win over Emil Ruusuvuori. No. 29 seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry notched his first ATP grass-court career win in Round 1. That lack of experience will hurt him against the two-time quarterfinalist.
Prediction: Wawrinka in 4
Damian:
Etcheverry against Zapata Miralles was surprisingly good in the opening round, while Wawrinka straight-setting Ruusuvuori shocked many as well. The courts aren’t as low-bouncing as the grass of old and that gives both guys time to tune in their strokes. Should be another cracker, but Stan the Man’s serve probably gives him the edge.
Prediction: Wawrinka in 4
Aleksandar Vukic vs Quentin Halys
Yesh:
Vukic is also on far more rest than his opponent, and once again I don’t think it matters much. Halys completed an upset of Brit Dan Evans under the Centre Court lights on Tuesday evening, and he should be flying high with confidence. I think he’ll have enough on the surface to get things done.
Prediction: Halys in 4
Shane:
The winner of this Aleksander Vukic vs Quentin Halys match will reach the third round at a Slam for the first time. Both men looked impressive in their upset victories in Round 1. I give Halys a slight edge in this match. The Frenchman will be able to get to the net and put pressure on the Aussie.
Prediction: Halys in 5
Damian:
Halys was pretty phenomenal against Evans in Round 1, both before the delays and when they were moved to a court with a roof. His serve is massive, but he’s also taking the ball so early and is excellent at rushing the net. Vukic is way more reliant on his serve and doesn’t have as much to offer off the ground.
Prediction: Halys in 4
Andrey Rublev vs Aslan Karatsev
Yesh:
Two hard-hitting Russians will battle it out, but I’m not sure this will be much of a battle. Rublev is in near-elite form right now, while Karatsev has struggled to find any real range for quite a long time now. Expect the seeded Russian to move on.
Prediction: Rublev in 3
Shane:
Russian countrymen Andrey Rublev and Aslan Karatsev square off for the second time, with Karastev winning their only previous meeting in 2021. Rublev, the No. 7 seed, has much more experience on the grass and has the first strike tennis to find success on the surface. He should power past Karatsev.
Prediction: Rublev in 4
Damian:
Karatsev doesn’t have the greatest grass records, but he can obviously be next to unstoppable on his day. Rublev isn’t at his best on the surface either, although he usually retains the consistency he has all year round. Tough to say whether Karatsev will deliver. Always a tricky matchup though when your opponent’s level is the more important factor.
Prediction: Rublev in 5
