We arrive in the quarterfinals of the 2023 ATP Adelaide International and the stage is set for a very entertaining day of tennis. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate, but who will secure their spot in the semifinals in the South Australian capital?
ATP Adelaide Quarterfinal Predictions
Yoshihito Nishioka vs Alexei Popyrin
Head-to-head: first meeting
Both players have kicked off their 2023 campaigns with a bang. Yoshihito Nishioka took out Holger Rune in the opening round, while Alexei Popyrin defeated the best two Chinese players in the qualifying (Yibing Wu and Zhizhen Zhang), before scoring his first non-retirement top 10 win over Felix Auger-Aliassime. Who’s got the better chance to keep this going? Probably Nishioka, who plays a very unpleasant ball and will give a real test to Popyrin’s patience and point construction skills.

Jannik Sinner vs Sebastian Korda
Head-to-head: Sinner 1-0 Korda
Both players are yet to drop a set so far at the ATP Adelaide International. Sebastian Korda had some really tough opposition, getting through Andy Murray and Roberto Bautista Agut. Jannik Sinner took their only meeting thus far in Washington 2021 and is quite simply the better player. However, this will not come easy as Korda is off to a great start this year and when he’s at his best, he’s more than capable of taking out someone of Sinner’s caliber.

Daniil Medvedev vs Karen Khachanov
Head-to-head: Medvedev 2-1 Khachanov
Daniil Medvedev looked absolutely excellent in his dismissal of Miomir Kecmanovic, but it has to be said that the Serbian is a perfect matchup for him. However, if he can maintain that sort of aggressive hitting from that clash, the Russian is going to be one of the main contenders not only for the title here, but also at the Australian Open. Karen Khachanov seems like another rival that should suit him, although it’s a bit of an estimation because they haven’t played each other in more than three years.

Novak Djokovic vs Denis Shapovalov
Head-to-head: Djokovic 7-0 Shapovalov
It was just a classic Novak Djokovic performance on Thursday at the ATP Adelaide International. Quentin Halys played one of the best matches of his life but whenever he got remotely close to winning a set, the Serbian would suddenly stop missing at all and get perfect timing on every return. Denis Shapovalov also had a great second-round showing and should provide a decent challenge. He’s never beaten Djokovic though and if the former World No. 1 will be hitting his forehand as ferociously as against Halys, he’s probably not going to do it here either.
