Liam Broady vs Hamad Medjedovic
Broady qualified, he’s just 3-8 at tour level this season. Medjedovic is at a career high ranking of #255, he won his first ATP Challenger Tour title this season but he’s currently on a four match losing streak. Broady has a powerful game and looks capable of causing Medjedovic trouble unless the Serbian can find some form quickly. Broady in 3
Tomas Martin Etcheverry vs Aslan Karatsev
Tomas Martin Etcheverry is just 2-16 at the ATP Tour level in his career, by contrast he’s 31-11 at the ATP Challenger Tour level. The Argentine is looking to take that big step up to the top level of men’s tennis but has yet to be able to achieve it thus far. Karatsev is a solid hard court player who is a disappointing 15-24 on the year. Although Karatsev has yet to reach the levels he did last season, he’s still a higher caliber player than the opposition, especially on this surface. Karatsev in 2
Vasek Pospisil vs Tallon Griekspoor
Pospisil won their only meeting and is in this main draw as a lucky loser. The Canadian has largely confined his participation this year to the ATP Challenger Tour, he boasts a good record this year on that tour but has been limited at the ATP level. Griekspoor is 22-21 on the year overall and has put together his best ever ATP Tour level campaign, even though he still has more losses than win at the main tour level this year. Griekspoor looks the more reliable pick here, Pospisil has some weapons but he’s pretty unreliable these days. Griekspoor in 3
Edan Leshem vs Yshai Oliel
Two home players, Oliel is a former top junior who has yet to matriculate to the main tour level since turning pro five years ago. Leshem, who is coached by former ATP Tel Aviv Champion Amos Mansdorf, has found his biggest success playing on home soil and comes through to this main draw as a qualifier. Neither player has much ATP experience but given their collective ranking this is similar to an early round ATP Challenger Tour match instead. Both should be highly motivated, Leshem’s form looks a bit better, so the older of the pair has an edge. Leshem in 2
