We are down to eight players at the WTA 250 event in Granby, Canada as these women look to get in their final preparation before the last Slam of the season. Current world #10 and #1 seed Daria Kasatkina leads the quarterfinal action against #5 seed Nuria Parrizas-Diaz. We at LWOT have the prediction for that match as well as all other happenings around the grounds of Granby. But who will advance?
WTA Granby Quarterfinal Predictions
Tatjana Maria vs Diane Parry
Head-to-Head: Maria 0-1 Parry
Veteran Tatjana Maria is into her third WTA quarterfinal of the season. The 35-year-old has looked strong in her two straight-set victories this week. She matches up against Diane Parry for the second time this season. The Frenchwoman bested Maria in three sets back in June. The 19-year-old has rounded into form this season, improving 44 spots in the rankings since the beginning of the year. In this battle of the generations, I give the slight edge to the German. Maria has been a solid hard court player all season and has a great chance to win her second career singles title this week.
Prediction: Maria in 3
Marta Kostyuk vs Rebecca Marino
Head-to-Head: first meeting
One of Marta Kostyuk and Rebecca Marino is in prime position to reach their first Tour-level semifinal of the season. This will be the first meeting between the 20-year-old Ukrainian and 31-year-old Canadian. Both Kostyuk and Marino came from a set down to win their second round matches and are playing with a good amount of confidence off of those comebacks. Both players are also very strong hard court players. Kostyuk is 15-8 on the surface this season, Marino, 27-9. I believe the difference in this match will be the strong crowd support shown to the Canadian. I like Marino to come out victorious in three sets.
Prediction: Marino in 3
Daria Saville vs Xiyu Wang
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Daria Saville has been in blistering form to start off her Granby campaign. She has dropped only seven games in two matches. She matches up with Xiyu Wang for the first time in the Granby quarterfinals. The 21-year-old has not had nearly the same experience as Saville during her first two matches. Wang has spent 4 hours and 10 minutes on court compared to the Aussie’s 2 hours and 35 minutes. I expect Saville to continue her winning ways in this match. She has been a terrific hard court player this season and is a sleeper to make a second week run in Flushing.
Prediction: Saville in 2
Daria Kasatkina vs Nuria Parrizas-Diaz
Head-to-Head: Kasatkina 1-0 Parrizas-Diaz
The match of the day in Granby will take place between Daria Kasatkina and Nuria Parrizas-Diaz. Kasatkina won their only previous meeting 7-5 6-1 in an Australian Open lead-up event earlier this season. In this US Open lead-up, I see the same result coming to fruition. Although the Spaniard has looked dominant in both her victories this week, she has not played anyone near the caliber of a world top-tenner. Kasatkina loves playing on hard courts, holding an 18-9 record on the surface this season, including a title earlier this month in San Jose. I believe the 25-year-old is on her way to her second title of the season in Granby.
Prediction: Kasatkina in 2
