The first day of Bad Homburg did not disappoint. Sloane Stephens was beaten in three sets by Katie Swan while Kamilla Rakhimova took out #8 seed Ludmilla Samsonova in three sets. Topping all that off was a comeback victory by Caroline Garcia that I certainly didn’t see coming. Hopefully Tuesday is packed with just as much exciting, dramatic and quality tennis. The day’s play features six matches and this set of WTA Bad Homburg day 2 predictions takes a look at how three of them should pan out. Please feel free to get involved by leaving your opinion in the comment section below! With that in mind, let’s dive in to this set of predictions.
WTA Bad Homburg Day 2 Predictions
Anastasia Potapova vs Tatjana Maria
Head-to-head: 2 -1 Potapova
Anastasia Potapova has yet to return to her pre-injury levels since re-joining the WTA Tour. However, the young Russian has shown promising signs in 2022 and will undoubtedly be happy to be back on Grass. She won Junior Wimbledon in 2016 and has a very respectable 12-5 record on the surface. Potapova hasn’t played since the French open which might be cause for concern. However, Tatjana Maria has been very up and down this year and is certainly a beatable opponent. If Potapova finds her feet early on grass, she should be able to hit the German off the court here and advance to the next round.
Prediction: Potapova in 3

Alize Cornet vs Anna Kalinskaya
Head-to-head: 2 – 0 Cornet
This doesn’t look good for Alize Cornet. The Frenchwoman has played Kalinskaya twice this year and lost both matches. The last of their encounters was last week in Berlin. Cornet has shown signs of life in Grand Slams this year, especially in Australia, but has done little else on the WTA Tour. By contrast, Kalinskaya is having a solid year and looks certain to cement a place inside the top 100 in the women’s game come the end of the year. Cornet is likely viewing this as Wimbledon preparation whereas Kalinskaya will not feature in the Grand Slam this year. As such, the Russian should be more determined to make an impact in other grass tournaments and that drive should see her through to her third win against Cornet this year.
Prediction: Kalinskaya in 2

Angelique Kerber vs Anastasia Gasanova
Head-to-head: First meeting
Anastasia Gasanova is slowly creeping towards the top 100 in the game. However, her inconsistency won’t cut it against an opponent of the quality of Angelique Kerber. The German is a former Wimbledon champion and is once again a top 20 player. That comes off the back of some quality tennis in recent months. If Kerber can continue her upwards trend then she is certainly a dark horse for Wimbledon next week. As far as this tournament is concerned, Kerber is the defending champion. She should be taking one step closer to a repeat here. If she brings her best all week, we may well see a title defense in Bad Homburg.
Prediction: Kerber in 2
