WTA Bad Homburg Day 2 Predictions Including Bianca Andreescu vs Martina Trevisan

Bianca Andreescu Berlin

First-round action at the WTA Bad Homburg Open comes thick and fast. The stars of the WTA Tour will make their last stop before Wimbledon in the hope of accumulating as many wins as possible on the grass. Six matches are in store on Monday, with three of them in this article. Who will reach the second round?

WTA Bad Homburg Day 2 Predictions

Misaki Doi vs Greet Minnen

Head-to-head: first meeting

The formbook is not a pretty sight for both of these two players. Doi, in particular, has had a shocker of a season with just five wins from 16 matches. While you could make a case of Japanese World No. 99 using her veteran know-how to outwit Minnen, she has only won one set in her last five matches. The Belgian’s form of late is hardly inspiring either, but she has been competitive during the first quarter of 2022.

Prediction: Minnen in 3

Claire Liu vs Jule Niemeier

Head-to-head: Niemeier 1-0 Liu

Jule Niemeier has methodically continued to impress this season. She entered the Berlin Open last week in the best possible shape having won the WTA 125K title in Makarska – the biggest of her young career. Niemeier would push eventual finalist Belinda Bencic in the first round, losing narrowly in three sets. The German World No. 96 will have a more cushy opener in Bad Homburg and should be heavily favored to progress. Her power-packed game is almost tailormade for the grass and if she can display the form that took Bencic to the limit last week, Liu is unlikely to be a hindrance.

Prediction: Niemeier in 2

Bianca Andreescu vs Martina Trevisan

Head-to-head: Andreescu 1-0 Trevisan

Following her exploits at the French Open earlier this month, Martina Trevisan is assured of a Grand Slam seeding spot at Wimbledon. The 28-year-old is now just two spots away from replacing Camila Giorgi as the top-ranked Italian woman. Another deep run in Bad Homburg will help her cause to do just that. However, Trevisan will have a mountain to climb to pull it off. She is playing on her weakest surface. And her opponent Bianca Andreescu has already secured adequate match practice on the lawns in Berlin last week. Expect the 2019 US Open to breeze into the second round.

Prediction: Andreescu in 2
