We are up to the semifinal round of the ATP Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. Two Russians will face off as their resurgence continues. The other semifinal, meanwhile, will feature the surprise of the tournament. Who will win to advance to Saturday’s final? We give you our thoughts on both can’t-miss matches.
ATP Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Semifinal Predictions
Lloyd Harris vs Denis Shapovalov
Who would have expected Lloyd Harris to be standing here in the semifinal stage at the beginning of the week? The talented South African, coming from qualifying, has managed to beat Dominic Thiem and Kei Nishikori this week. Shapovalov, meanwhile, just continues to improve on his brand of strong tennis. He recently broke into the Top 10 for the first time in his career. And he continues to justify that ranking with solid performances all over the tour. It will be a close battle between these two, likely even a three-setter. But Harris’s dream run will probably end here.
Prediction: Shapovalov in 3
Aslan Karatsev vs Andrey Rublev
Karatsev’s form and magic continues here in Dubai. But will it work against an even more in-form player like Andrey Rublev? The pair will know each other’s games well considering them training with each other at the ATP Cup earlier this year. Many will expect Rublev to continue and steam roll Karatsev, like he has done all week to all his opponents. But expect a close three-setter, with Rublev eventually pulling through to advance yet to another ATP 500 final.
Prediction: Rublev in 3
