ATP Gstaad Day 2 Predictions
Juan Manuel Cerundolo vs Zdenek Kolar
Head-to-head: first meeting
Cerundolo had a fantastic tournament in Gstaad 12 months ago. He defeated Casper Ruud on his way to the final, where he lost narrowly to an inspired Alexander Bublik. The Argentine has been in far better form in 2026, winning 20 matches on clay. And none will come bigger than his French Open upset against Jannik Sinner. Zdenek Kolar has put together some solid results on clay, but it is predominantly on the lower tiers. Cerundolo has the higher ceiling and he is positioned to come through this opener without facing any danger.
Prediction: Cerundolo in 2
Jerome Kym vs Dylan Dietrich
Head-to-head: Kym 1-0 Dietrich
Kym has some work to do to break into the Top 100. He certainly had the momentum to do it earlier this year, but he picked up a shoulder injury at the Kigali Challenger in early March and was out for over two months. It took him a few weeks to find his feet. Last week’s semifinal run at the Iasi Challenger was his best result since his injury. Dietrich has earned a main draw wild card thanks to a promising season on the ITF Tour (one title). Kym needed three sets to beat his countryman when they played at that level three years ago, but I wouldn’t put too much weight on that result. The gap between them has widened considerably.
Prediction: Kym in 2
Pedro Martinez vs Yannick Hanfmann
Head-to-head: Hanfmann 3-1 Martinez
Despite his clay-court pedigree, Martinez has endured a poor 2026 on clay. His underwhelming results have contributed significantly to his ranking dip. It’s the first time in six years that he’s fallen out of the Top 150. By contrast, Hanfmann has outperformed the Spaniard this season. He is 11-8 on clay and reached an ATP final in Santiago. At altitude, the German is a handful and should be equipped to hold off an out-of-form Martinez, prolonging points.
Prediction: Hanfmann in 2
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Ignacio Buse
Head-to-head: Buse 1-0 Tsitsipas
Tsitsipas has previously dominated clay-court tournaments, winning five of his 13 ATP Tour titles on the dirt. There were some encouraging signs at the start of the season when he won three singles matches at the United Cup, but his form has been uninspiring for the most part. And right now, the Greek is a shell of his former self as a Top 100 exit looms large. Buse defeated Tsitsipas during the grass-court swing in Mallorca less than a month ago. The Peruvian has enjoyed a breakout season at the Tour level, and he’s been the steadier player. He could well send the former World No. 3 packing again.
Prediction: Buse in 3
