We split the 32 matches between eight articles, with the other articles featuring Alexander Zverev vs Alexander Blockx, Ben Shelton vs Otto Virtanen, Alexander Bublik vs Thanasi Kokkinakis, Frances Tiafoe vs Terence Atmane, Matteo Arnaldi vs Quentin Halys, Stan Wawrinka vs Matteo Berrettini, and Jakub Mensik vs Toby Samuel. Predicting these matches are Amanda Bergman, Cizu Harbor, and Tope Oke. Who do you think will advance?
Wimbledon Day 2 Predictions
Benjamin Bonzi vs Gabriel Diallo
Amanda:
This should be a close match, as Gabriel Diallo and Benjamin Bonzi have somewhat comparable grass seasons and neither has a clear playstyle advantage over the other. Diallo won the only time they played, giving him the slight edge in the matchup, but ultimately it’ll come down to whoever is playing better on the day.
Prediction: Diallo in 5
Cizu:
A coin-flip of a match. Both players should fancy themselves here. That said, Bonzi has had more impressive outings on this surface this season. He has also played more established players during this time. I think that makes the difference.
Prediction: Bonzi in 4
Tope:
Benjamin Bonzi is in genuine grass-court form with four straight wins in Rosmalen proves he belongs on this surface. Diallo, meanwhile, is just finding his feet again after a rough season, stringing back-to-back wins at Eastbourne for the first time since March, though a bagel-heavy loss to Draper tempers the optimism. If the Canadian’s serve clicks, he edges it but Bonzi’s grass pedigree makes this a coin flip.
Prediction: Bonzi in 4
Corentin Moutet vs Marcos Giron
Amanda:
Marcos Giron has picked up a few solid grass wins this season, which is more than Corentin Moutet has done as he’s struggled in every match. Giron is in much better form right now and should be able to pull through this first round.
Prediction: Giron in 4
Cizu:
Moutet has looked a bit lost at sea recently. Luckily for him, his opponent has also been far from impressive. It sets up what could be a very patchy match as both players fight to gain some control of themselves. Moutet, though, still has more variety and craft, you feel, and you’ll expect him to find a way in the end.
Prediction: Moutet in 5
Tope:
Corentin Moutet is a bit of a shadow of himself after eight losses from his last nine outings tell a brutal story. Giron is hardly in blazing form either, going 3-5 on grass this summer and falling in straights to Jack Draper at Eastbourne. Expect an error-strewn contest between two men searching for form but Giron’s relative steadiness on the surface should be enough to edge it.

Karen Khachanov vs Billy Harris
Amanda:
Although Karen Khachanov’s only grass-court match this season was a loss, he’s extremely consistent in making his Grand Slam matches last as long as possible, giving him an advantage over the less-experienced Billy Harris. Harris has been playing well and could give Khachanov trouble, but ultimately Khachanov is just too solid in best-of-five.
Prediction: Khachanov in 4
Cizu:
With Khachanov, you mostly know what you’ll get, as he tends to beat those you’d expect him to beat. Harris will enjoy the crowd’s support, which might make things interesting for a while, but ultimately, the Russian is just too solid against this level of opposition.

Tope:
Karen Khachanov was a quarterfinalist here last year, though his 2025 season has been a tale of missed opportunities, capped by a first-round exit in Halle. BillyHarris, ranked 140, earns his shot at the main draw through qualifying and carries the crowd on his back, but goodwill only travels so far on grass. Khachanov’s power and experience over five sets should be the difference so expect him to advance.

Alex de Minaur vs Roman Andres Burruchaga
Amanda:
Roman Andres Burruchaga played only one match this grass season, which he lost, and has never played in the main draw of Wimbledon. While Alex de Minaur has taken some tough losses this grass season, he’s been consistent at Wimbledon the last few years, and this should be a straightforward win for him.
Prediction: de Minaur in 3
Cizu:
Burruchaga is frankly out of his depth here against one of the steadiest players on tour, who is also surface-tested this season. The Australian should win this without much fuss.

Tope:
Alex de Minaur arrives is a proven grass-court performer, but his 2025 form tells a murkier story: early exits piling up after a bright start, with a Rotterdam title now feeling like a distant memory. Roman Andres Burruchaga steps onto the Wimbledon main draw for the first time, his only grass warm-up ending in a first-round loss in Eastbourne, which makes this as tough a debut as they come. De Minaur should get through, but he needs a clean, focused performance, the last thing he wants is another shock result to add to a frustrating run.
