Felix Auger-Aliassime in action ahead of ATP Halle.

ATP Halle Day 3 Predictions Including Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Learner Tien

The 2026 ATP Halle Open promises plenty of entertaining tennis and the first two days saw a number of exciting matches. As ever, we here at LWOT will be previewing and predicting every match on the slate in Germany, including Ben Shelton versus Lorenzo Sonego. But who will advance in Halle?

ATP Halle Day 3 Predictions

Frances Tiafoe vs Sho Shimabukuro

Head-to-head: first meeting

Frances Tiafoe enters this match as the clear favourite and will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing quarterfinal exit in Stuttgart. The American looked excellent in his opening-round win over Flavio Cobolli, striking the ball cleanly and playing with confidence. Sho Shimabukuro has enjoyed some good results over the past couple of weeks, but Tiafoe appears to be the stronger player from the baseline and better equipped to handle the quicker conditions. Expect the American to progress.

Prediction: Tiafoe in 2

Daniil Medvedev vs Terence Atmane

Head-to-head: Medvedev 1-0 Atmane

Daniil Medvedev made a strong start at the ATP Halle Open with a straight-sets victory and arrives with confidence after reaching the semifinals in Den Bosch, albeit he will be disappointed not to have gone on to win the title in the Netherlands. The Russian looks increasingly comfortable on grass, where his serve and deep return position allow him to absorb pace and frustrate opponents. His consistency from the baseline remains one of the biggest weapons on tour.

Terence Atmane produced an impressive upset over Martin Landaluce in the opening round, though it should be noted that the Spaniard is still finding his feet on the grass, and is at his best when taking aggressive cuts at the ball. However, Medvedev’s elite counterpunching ability is perfectly suited to handling that style of tennis. Medvedev should have too much quality and progress comfortably.

Prediction: Medvedev in 2

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Learner Tien

Head-to-head: first meeting

Felix Auger-Aliassime suffered an early loss in Den Bosch, but the second seed remains one of the strongest contenders this week at the ATP Halle Open. His powerful serve and aggressive baseline game are ideally suited to grass, where he can take control of rallies quickly – particularly when he flattens out his groundstrokes. Learner Tien continues to impress despite lacking the raw power of many of his counterparts, making up for that with court craft. Tien may be able to make this competitive and even steal a set, but Auger-Aliassime’s superior firepower should ultimately prove decisive.

Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 3
