Grigor Dimitrov had a tough 2025. The Bulgarian is now 34 years old, but he continues to put in the effort to keep putting his best foot forward on the court. He had some near misses and a heartbreaking injury mid-season that hampered his chances of a full season.

Up and Down First Half
Dimitrov started well in Brisbane, reaching the semi-finals, and en route became the player with the most wins at that tournament. He had to retire mid-match in the semis, and then retired from three of his next four tournaments due to various injuries.
Things took a turn for the good during the Sunshine Double as he reached the Round of 16 at Indian Wells and the semi-finals at Miami. He had a decent clay-court season, with a quarter-final showing in Monte Carlo, but had to retire mid-match in his first-round match at Roland Garros.
Heartbreaking Second Half
The Bulgarian entered Wimbledon without any high expectations. Surprisingly, Dimitrov cruised his way to the second week, dropping only one set across his first three matches. He faced Jannik Sinner in the fourth round, and what followed was gut-wrenching.
Dimitrov played lights-out tennis to gain a two-sets-to-love advantage, but injured his pectoral in the third set and had to retire from the match. Sinner went on to win Wimbledon.
Dimitrov had competed in 58 consecutive majors, which ended at the US Open due to the injury he picked up at Wimbledon. The 34-year-old tried to come back at the Paris Masters but retired in the second round, citing a shoulder injury.
2026 Outlook
Dimitrov had a horrid showing at the Majors in 2025, retiring from all events he contested. His primary focus entering 2026 is on his fitness and on how best to schedule his tournaments to minimise the risk of injury.
Dimitrov had a fantastic 2024, so he is still very capable of delivering great performances, and 2026 may be an exciting year for the Bulgarian, especially at the biggest events on the ATP schedule.
