Carlos Alcaraz officially ended his 2025 ATP season yesterday after finishing as runner-up to Jannik Sinner at the ATP Finals in a thrilling final. However, unlike his Italian rival who won’t be returning to action until 2026, Alcaraz still plans to play for Spain at the Davis Cup later this month where he will be bidding to win his nation a sixth title (and first since 2019).
Injury Concern After the ATP Finals
While Alcaraz was quickto say after the match that the loss was solely due to Sinner playing the better and more courageous tennis in the bigger moments, he appeared to tweak his hamstring late in the first set and required a medical timeout. He was able to complete the match without showing too many signs of discomfort, but following that incident, Alcaraz and his team have decided that he will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the issue.
The world #1 will travel to Bologna today for the Davis Cup Finals and will have the scan to confirm he is fit to play this week and to prevent the injury from worsening before the off-season.
A Career-Defining 2025 Season
Alcaraz has delivered a career-best season in 2025, playing 80 ATP matches and compiling 71–9 record, which is both a personal best and one of the all-time great records. He won eight titles and finished runner-up three more times, reaching 11 finals across all three surfaces.
Although the season did not start or end the way he would have preferred, a remarkable mid-year run from Monte Carlo to Tokyo defined his campaign. During that stretch, he went 52–3, winning seven titles—including two Majors at the French Open and the US Open. Despite his heavy workload and the most matches he has ever played in a single year, the Spaniard has consistently shown full commitment to the national team, confirming relatively early on in the season that he would be available for the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna.
But with the latest hamstring issue, all eyes will turn to Spain’s press conference tomorrow to learn whether Alcaraz can compete in Bologna or whether his final in Turin has already ended his 2025 season.
