Four players are already into the ATP Beijing quarterfinals – four more will attempt to join them on day four. It should be an entertaining day of tennis and, as always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match. But who will secure their spot in the last eight?
ATP Beijing Day 4 Predictions
Flavio Cobolli vs Learner Tien
Head-to-head: first meeting
Learner Tien establishing himself around the Top 50 at the age of 19 is remarkable, even if right now it’s tough to see a pathway for the American to keep developing. His game can throw off the opponents in many ways and he’s been successful even against top opposition this year. Let’s see how Flavio Cobolli handles it, but at least on paper the Italian has a versatile, all-rounded skillset. That usually helps you out against Tien, if you can keep yourself from overplaying.
Prediction: Cobolli in 3

Adrian Mannarino vs Lorenzo Musetti
Head-to-head: Mannarino 1-1 Musetti
It was brilliant how Adrian Mannarino got his career back on track at the start of the grass season, going on to produce big runs in events such as Cincinnati or the US Open. He’s still dangerous now despite being way past his physical prime and has just knocked out Alexander Bublik. But Lorenzo Musetti has so much technical ability and a set of tools for any occasion, which might lead to him finding a way to respond to the Frenchman’s unusual appraoch.
Prediction: Musetti in 2
Daniil Medvedev vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina
Head-to-head: Medvedev 4-1 Davidovich Fokina
Nowadays every Daniil Medvedev match feels like it’s more or less a coin flip with the Russian becoming so unpredictable and having one of the worst Grand Slam seasons a top player has ever produced. The shock therapy led to him making changes in his team and who knows, maybe that will help. Right now he and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina are probably at a similar level in terms of quality and it might even be the funky Spaniard who brings his best a bit more regularly.
Prediction: Davidovich Fokina in 3

Alexander Zverev vs Corentin Moutet
Head-to-head: Zverev 1-0 Moutet
Alexander Zverev struggled with a back issue at Laver Cup and needed injections to play. We don’t know yet if the situation is all clear now, but he did eliminate Lorenzo Sonego in the opening round. Corentin Moutet can make things gritty and force him away from his favorite patterns two meters behind the baseline. Let’s say the German just battles through with his higher standard of discipline on the court allowing him to survive the ups and downs of Moutet’s game.
Prediction: Zverev in 3
