ATP Mallorca Day 2 Predictions Including Learner Tien vs Justin Engel

The 2025 ATP Mallorca Championships continue with seven singles main draw matches scheduled for Day 2. 19-year-old Learner Tien will take on 17-year-old Justin Engel in the last match on Centre Court, and we hope to see a lot more of that rivalry in the future. Engel has had a bit more time on the grass recently with his Stuttgart run, but is Tien going to make use of his experience advantage? It’s a fascinating matchup; who do you think will prevail?

ATP Mallorca Day 2 Predictions

Damir Dzumhur vs Arthur Rinderknech

Head-to-head: 1-1

Arthur Rinderknech’s 2025 has been rough so far, but maybe that lucky loser run at Queen’s Club can get him back on track. Even the encounter with Carlos Alcaraz was relatively competitive. Still, Damir Dzumhur is such a unique opponent that you can’t just expect to transfer the level from the previous event without any bumps on the way. It helps that the Bosnian has only played one match on grass this year so far and ended it with a retirement. Rinderknech has to be the favorite here, but needs to stay cautious.
Prediction: Rinderknech in 3

Nishesh Basavareddy vs Hamad Medjedovic

Head-to-head: Medjedovic 1-0

This should be fun with two very talented youngsters. Nishesh Basavareddy picked up his first grass wins of the season in the qualifying, including a 3-hour-plus marathon against Botic van de Zandschulp. Meanwhile, Hamad Medjedovic suffered a rough start to his campaign in Queen’s Club. The Serbian likes time on the ball to produce his big groundstrokes, but then again his serve will be a factor here. Basavareddy is more inventive, and Medjedovic will need to rely on the power discrepancy to win.
Prediction: Medjedovic in 3

Pedro Martinez vs Corentin Moutet

Head-to-head: Martinez 2-1

Seeing these two clash on grass will be a little weird as it’s not the most natural surface for either player. Pedro Martinez seems to be in worse shape right now, barely picking up wins since reaching the Buenos Aires semifinals in February. Last week’s loss to Tomas Martin Etcheverry doesn’t bode well either–he got outclassed by a fellow non-grass-courter. Corentin Moutet adapts to these conditions better and has been in decent shape of late with the win over Taylor Fritz last week. No-brainer? Maybe.
Prediction: Moutet in 2

Learner Tien vs Justin Engel

Head-to-head: First meeting

Good showdown between some of the brightest talents of the 2005 and 2007 birth years. Learner Tien’s journey has slowed down considerably on natural surfaces, but there’s no reason why he should struggle on grass as much as he did on hard–especially with his slider serves and the multi-dimensional backhand slice. His playstyle will be tricky to handle for someone as inexperienced as Justin Engel, but if we were to look only at form right now, the German would probably be the favorite to win.
Prediction: Tien in 3

About Damian Kust

Damian is a connoisseur of the lower tiers of men's tennis and would probably watch the World No. 700 play a ferret if he could see it from the stands. Always pleased by a beautiful one-handed backhand or classic volleying technique.
