The WTA Italian Open has begun play. Last Word On Sports is back with more action in our best bets column. Do you like our picks for the Italian Open? Let us know in the comment section whether you agree or disagree with my selections.

WTA Italian Open

Yastremska – Potapova: Time 11:00

H2H: 2-1

Dayana Yastremska is 2-1 all-time against Anastasia Potapova, including a victory on clay back in 2018, but they’ve played twice already in 2025 with a 1-1 record. The Ukrainian is 3-2 on clay this year, but her last victory as an underdog was back on March 7th at Indian Wells. Potapova has made the Round of 16 in both of her last two tournaments on clay, so she will be looking to continue her success.

Best Bet to Make

As stated above, Indian Wells was the last time Yastremska won as an underdog. That said, earlier in the year, Yastremska thumped Potapova in the second round at Dubai, and the odds weren’t too different from this match, but Potapova is slightly more favored this time around. She also lost to Potapova on New Year’s Day in Brisbane whilst facing similar odds to their Dubai match. Both ladies are 5-5 in their last ten.

That being said, Potapova winning is a value bet for sure.

Dolehide – Cirstea: Time 11:00

H2H: 0-0

Caroline Dolehide meets up with Sorana-Mihaela Cirstea for the first time in her career in Rome. Cirstea is ranked considerably lower on the world scale at No. 131 than Dolehide is at No. 73. Moreover, this is only the second match for Cirstea on clay in 2025. Her first match was a three-set loss in the first round of the WTA Madrid Open last week. Dolehide has played six matches on clay already in 2025, but she is only 3-3 in those matches.

Best Bet to Make

The books have Dolehide as an underdog, and I disagree. She has played on clay more than Cirstea, but she also lost her last clay court match in France while she was a fairly decent favorite. She did take down Elina Avanesyan in straight sets in the opening round of the Madrid. It seems like the potential is there for Dolehide to make a push; she just needs to tap her internal confidence and start piecing it all together.

That being said,  Dolehide winning is a value bet for sure.

Lamens – Zarazua: Time 13:00

H2H: 0-0

Suzan Lamens and Renata Zarazua have never met before, though both occupy similar territory in the world rankings. 2025 has been a mixed bag for Zarazua, as she’s 12-14 overall but 5-3 on clay. Lamens is 15-11, but only 3-2 on clay. Zarazua’s best showing in 2025 is an ITF tournament at Madrid, but she has yet to replicate her successes at the WTA level. Lamens has played her five previous matches on clay and should be more than ready for her competition. That said, outside of clay, she hasn’t accomplished much on the WTA circuit in 2025.

Best Prop Bet to Make

The books have Lamens as the favorite, and I understand why. The biggest thing to note when it comes to Zarazua is that she already has an egregious loss on the year, at least when it comes to the line going into the match. Zarazua lost to Celine Simunyu as a 15-point favorite in the match, though that was back in February. Lamens doesn’t have a loss like that in 2025. She’s generally performed well when she’s the favorite, and has more than a handful of victories as an underdog.

That being said, Lamens winning is a value bet for sure.
