The ATP Madrid Masters 1000 2025 edition had a weird ending to Monday order of play with a widespread outage but that doesn’t mean we are not looking forward to Day 7. As ever, we preview and predict all matches scheduled for you.
ATP Madrid Day 7 Predictions
Alexander Bublik vs Jakub Mensik
Head-to-head – Bublik 1-1 Mensik
Alexander Bublik notched up a great win by knocking out defending champion Andrey Rublev. The Kazakh came out on top after a seesaw battle and now faces young sensation Jakub Mensik. The Czech is having a great year and his win over Ben Shelton solidified his clay court footing. Expect Mensik to tighten his baseline game which should be frustrating for the unorthodox Bublik.
Prediction: Mensik in 2
Daniil Medvedev vs Brandon Nakashima
Head-to-head – Medvedev 1-0 Nakashima
Daniil Medvedev has quietly snuck into the Round of 16 with a one sided win in his second round. He takes on Brandon Nakashima who himself had a good win as well which makes this match a tight one. Nakashima likes to rally from the baseline and he is not a player who can hit through the defences and certainly not Medvedev’s on clay. Expect Medvedev to put up another strong showing here.
Prediction: Medvedev in 3
Taylor Fritz vs Casper Ruud
Head-to-head – Fritz 1-2 Ruud
Taylor Fritz has made a successful return to the tour after Miami and he would consider himself a little lucky with the walkover received in his second round. From the evidence this week, the American is moving well and he would need to be at his best if he’s to get the better of his next opponent. Casper Ruud hasn’t quite had the clay court season so far he would have liked but the Norwegian is still a very dangerous player on clay. Expect a lengthy battle with Fritz’s strengths getting neutralised towards the end due to the slower courts and Ruud’s heavy forehand.
Prediction: Ruud in 3
Alexander Zverev vs Francisco Cerundolo
Head-to-head – Zverev 0-2 Cerundolo
This is an interesting one. Alexander Zverev is the top ranked player this week but he has lost to Francisco Cerundolo in both their previous matches on clay including last year here in Madrid. Cerundolo has cruised this week while Zverev did struggle in his three set win in the second round. Zverev has played a lot in the past couple of weeks and maybe fatigue is catching up to him. That would be welcome news to Cerundolo who knows how to beat Zverev on clay.
Prediction: Cerundolo in 3
