ATP Munich Day 1 Predictions Including Alexander Zverev vs Alexandre Muller

With six first-round matches on the slate on day one at the ATP Munich Open, there should be plenty of entertaining tennis. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule, including Ben Shelton vs Borna Gojo. But who will book their spot in the round of 16 in Bavaria?

ATP Munich Day 1 Predictions

Tseng Chun-hsin vs Daniel Altmaier

Head-to-head: first meeting

Chun Hsin Tseng and Daniel Altmaier square off for the first time in what promises to be a competitive opening-round encounter in Munich. Altmaier, a solid clay-court performer with past success at Roland Garros, is comfortable on the surface and will enjoy home support in Germany. Tseng has had a steady, if unspectacular, 2025 season so far, and while he’s capable of pushing opponents with his baseline game, clay isn’t his strongest surface. Altmaier’s experience and recent form on the dirt should give him a slight edge in this matchup.

Prediction: Altmaier in 2

Alexander Zverev vs Alexandre Muller

Head-to-head: Zverev 1-0 Muller

Alexander Zverev and Alexandre Muller will face off in the opening round of the 2025 ATP Munich Open, marking their second career meeting. Zverev won their previous encounter in straight sets at the 2024 US Open. Muller has shown promising form this season, including a title win in Hong Kong and a runner-up finish in Rio, demonstrating his capability on clay. However, Zverev, a two-time Munich champion, will have the advantage of playing on home soil and brings significant experience on clay courts. While Muller is in good form, Zverev’s familiarity with the tournament and surface positions him as the slight favorite in this matchup.

Prediction: Zverev in 2

Tallon Griekspoor vs Learner Tien

Head-to-head: first meeting

Tallon Griekspoor and Learner Tien meet for the first time in Munich, with Griekspoor entering as the favourite after a strong clay-court showing in Marrakech where the Dutchman was runner-up. Tien, a rising American talent, has scored big wins this year but is still adapting to clay with his only match on the surface so far in 2025 a straight-sets defeat in Houston. Griekspoor’s experience should give him the edge, though Tien’s upside makes this a matchup to watch.

Prediction: Griekspoor in 3
