Four Players Receive WTA Austin Wild Cards

The 2025 ATX Open is a WTA 250 tournament that will take place in Austin, Texas, in the United States. It is one of two WTA tournaments that will be played in the week preceding the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

US Open finalist Jessica Pegula is the top seed in the third edition of the ATX Open. She is the sole Top 10 player in the field. The tournament organizers have finalized the entry list and have also included four wild cards. So who are they?

Four Players Receive WTA Austin Wild Cards

The first wild card was granted to Petra Kvitova. The decorated Czech lefty is making her debut appearance in Texas. It is her first WTA tournament since she became a mother. Kvitova hasn’t played since October 2023 and gave birth to a baby boy in July 2024. She is back on the practice courts and will prepare for a busy period of hard-court tennis in the U.S.A. (she also received a wild card for Indian Wells the following week.)

The second wild card entrant is Elizabeth Mandlik. The 23-year-old American is the daughter of four-time Grand Slam champion Hana Mandlikova. Less than two years ago, Mandlik made her top 100 debut but suffered a wrist injury at the start of 2024 which forced her to miss three months of competitive action. She had to modify her backhand when she returned and it took her some time before she restored her usual two-fisted swing. Mandlik is off to a flier in 2025 thanks to a W30 ITF title win in Palm Springs and her ranking is improving again.

The third wild card has gone to Texan native Malaika Rapolu. The 21-year-old has never played at the Tour level before but is coming off a career-best season in 2024. Rapolu won three ITF titles including a W40 in Austin. She is ranked just outside the Top 500 globally. Rapolu played college tennis at the University of Texas (which is in Austin) and ended last season ranked as the #17 player in the NCAA.

The last wild card is Ajla Tomljanovic. The Australian has battled persistent injuries throughout her career and last played at the end of January in Singapore. Tomljanovic will play in Austin for the first time next week.

Main draw action at the ATX Open will commence on Monday, February 24.
