The stage is set for the last eight men at the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires. Top seed Alexander Zverev is looking to win the title on his debut appearance but will need to clear a bumpy road, starting with a tricky quarterfinal meeting against Francisco Cerundolo. Who will reach the semifinals?
ATP Buenos Aires Quarterfinal Predictions
Joao Fonseca vs Mariano Navone
Head-to-head: Fonseca 1-1 Navone
This would be some sweet revenge if Fonsca can get one over Mariano Navone. The Argentinian was responsible for ending the Brazilian’s breakthrough run in the Rio quarterfinals last year. Fonseca can settle the score here by beating Navone in his backyard. The 18-year-old has elevated his game to new heights this season with a near-immaculate 11-2 win-loss record and should be the favorite.
Prediction: Fonseca in 2
Thiago Seyboth Wild vs Laslo Djere
Head-to-head: Djere 3-2 Seyboth Wild
Nothing was particularly interesting from Seyboth Wild this season until he set his foot on clay. He registered his first wins of 2025 on the surface this week and will be competing in his first ATP quarterfinal since July. He accounted for upsets over defending champion Facundo Diaz Acosta and Sebastian Baez. Djere has now reached his second career quarterfinal in Buenos Aires after knocking out fourth seed Alejandro Tabilo in three sets. The head-to-head is the clearest indication that this is a close call, but it is Seyboth Wild who has the upper hand after winning their last two matches.
Prediction: Seyboth Wild in 3
Lorenzo Musetti vs Pedro Martinez
Head-to-head: first meeting
Lorenzo Musetti easily powered past Corentin Moutet 6-3 6-2 to reach his second quarterfinal of the season. Martinez, for his part, was the man who closed the curtain on Diego Schwartzman’s career. He was remorseless during the match, dropping just four games in an 80-minute match. It hasn’t taken the Spaniard long to find his feet on his beloved surface But Musetti has the higher upswing on clay and knows more than way of getting a result on it.
Prediction: Musetti in 3
Alexander Zverev vs Francisco Cerundolo
Head-to-head: Zverev 0-1 Cerundolo
Zverev’s Buenos Aires debut match was a successful one. He overcame Dusan Lajovic in straight sets. He only lost his serve once during the match. Francisco Cerundolo needed two wins to reach the quarterfinals. His last outing was in beating his younger brother Juan Manuel 6-2 6-3. Zverev will be wary of the challenge at hand. Cerundolo defeated him in their lone ATP meeting in Madrid last season. He’ll need to grind a victory against the former champion.
Prediction: Zverev in 3
