Granollers and Zeballos have lost three of their last five matches. They have also lost four straight matches. Marcel and Horacio had their last win over a month ago in Shanghai, where they won their opening match against Reyes-Varela and Smith J-P. Last week in Paris, Granollers and Zeballos lost their opening match against Skupski and Venus in straight sets. It was overall a tight match, where they failed to perform under pressure. Here in Turin, Zeballos and Granollers lost their opening match against Heliovaara and Patten in straight sets. They were terrible on return, and just could not anticipate their serve. After that, in their second group match, Granollers and Zeballos lost against Koolhof/Mektic in three tight sets as we predicted. So far this season, Granollers and Zeballos have had their biggest results on the clay courts. They won the Masters title in Rome, and shortly after that reached the semifinals of the French Open, where they fell short to Arevalo and Pavic in three tight sets. Horacio and Marcel also had some success on the hard courts, where they won the Masters title in Montreal, and reached the final in Indian Wells. Last year in Turin, Granollers and Zeballos ended up being the first in the group, winning all three group matches. After that, in the semifinals, they defeated Bopanna and Ebden in straight sets. However, they ended the tournament as runners-up, losing against Ram and Salisbury in the final.
Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson have won three of their last five matches. Last week in Paris, Max and Jordan reached the semifinals, where they were upset by Glaspool and Pavlasek in straight sets. Here in Turin, Purcell and Thompson won their opening match against Koolhof and Mektic in straight sets. In the first set, Max and Jordan held their serve, and were more dominant in the tiebreak. After that, in the second set, Purcell and Thompson were great on return, and won dominantly in straight sets. In their second group match, Max and Jordan lost against Heliovaara and Patten in straight sets as we predicted. They have been consistent throughout the whole season. At the beginning of the season, Max and Jordan won the title in Dallas. Shortly after that, they won their second title of the season in Los Cabos. The Australians even had some decent success on the clay courts as well, where they also won the title in Houston. Max and Jordan were just one set short of winning the title at Wimbledon, where they lost against Heliovaara and Patten in three tiebreaks. Their biggest title of the season came in New York, where they won the US Open, winning against Krawietz and Puetz in the final.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Purcell and Thompson are the slight favorites in this matchup. We expect them to be a better doubles pair under these conditions. We believe that they will dominate in this match and win.
That being said, Purcell/Thompson winning is a value bet.
