ATP Finals Day 4 Predictions Including Carlos Alcaraz vs Andrey Rublev

Carlos Alcaraz in action ahead of the Six Kings Slam final.

Carlos Alcaraz and Andrey Rublev almost certainly need to win on Day 4 of the ATP Finals to keep their hopes of qualifying for the semifinal alive. They face each other in the opening match before Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud meet in the evening session. We at LWOT predict both matches in this article, but which two players do you think will triumph?

ATP Finals Day 4 Predictions

Alexander Zverev vs Casper Ruud

Head-to-head: Zverev 3-2 Ruud

Both players were very impressive in their last matches, although Ruud did benefit from Alcaraz struggling with an illness during his match. The courts at the venue in Turin are slightly slower than in previous years, which suits both men. It probably helps Ruud slightly more since Zverev’s superior serve, in particular, means he generally adapts better to faster surfaces.

Underestimating Ruud is a mistake many routinely make, and he will likely present a stiff challenge to Zverev. However, the German’s indoor game since the Paris Masters has been the best on the ATP Tour and he showed no signs of slowing down in his previous match against Rublev. Zverev’s more complete indoor game to triumph at the ATP Finals.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Andrey Rublev

Head-to-head: Alcaraz 1-1 Rublev

There are doubts surrounding Alcaraz’s fitness heading into this match. After struggling with an illness against Ruud, he ended a practice session after just ten minutes on Tuesday. Although it is hard to know for certain at this stage, Alcaraz might not be at his best again. That presents an opportunity for Rublev, who usually reaches a similar level in each match.

Rublev’s repeated problem is that his standard level is slightly below what is needed to win the biggest tournaments against the best players. However, his solid level could be good enough if Alcaraz enters the court not feeling 100%. That seems pretty likely, making Rublev the favorite.
Prediction: Rublev in 2
