The final week for tournaments begins before the all important Australian Open 2024. The ATP Adelaide Open 2024 edition sees a good mix of seasoned players and newcomers seeking to make a mark. As ever, we at LWOT preview and predict all four Round of 32 scheduled matches for you.
ATP Adelaide Day 1 Predictions
Miomir Kecmanovic vs Mackenzie Mcdonald
Head to head – First Meeting
Both players enter this tournament after a pretty poor showing in the recently concluded Hong Kong Open. Miomir Kecmanovic did manage to win his first round match last week but was bundled out quite easily in the second round. What was even more shocking was the abject surrender by Mackenzie McDonald in his opening match of the year. Expect a slugfest with Kecmanovic staying more consistent and winning in 3 sets.
Prediction: Kecmanovic in 3
Thanasi Kokkinakis vs Dusan Lajovic
Head to head – Kokkinakis 0-2 Lajovic
These two last met in 2015 and it will be interesting to see how Thanasi Kokkinakis fares this time around. The Australian lost his first round match last week in Brisbane and Dusan Lajovic is not going to be an easy opponent first up. Lajovic should be rusty given it is his first match of the year which should be exploited by Kokkinakis here.
Prediction: Kokkinakis in 2
Tomas Martin Etcheverry vs Alexander Shevchenko
Head to head – First Meeting
This should be a great contest between the two. Tomas Martin Etcheverry is seeded sixth here but he doesn’t come here with a lot of confidence having played last week in Brisbane. Alexander Shevchenko meanwhile did give Holger Rune a run for his money and the young Russian looks in decent nick. Expect Etcheverry’s struggles to continue and the Russian to win a tight match.
Prediction: Shevchenko in 3
Sebastian Baez vs Jack Draper
Head to head – Baez 0-1 Draper
It will be interesting to see how Jack Draper performs in 2024. The Brit has all the weaponry to be a top player but a fast start to 2024 is a must. He takes on fifth seed Sebastian Baez who was dumped in the first round in Brisbane. They have met once before on the clay courts last year with Draper winning that. Expect Baez to be overpowered by Draper’s groundstrokes and serve.
Prediction: Draper in 3
