WTA Guangzhou Quarterfinal Predictions Including Magda Linette vs Rebeka Masarova

Magda Linette Australian Open

Day 4 at the WTA event in Guangzhou will see all four quarterfinal matchups played. In an unusually weak field, #27 Magda Linette is the #1 seed but she is far from a clear favorite here. The tournament is pretty wide open and all eight women still left will surely believe their chances of hoisting the trophy at the end of the week.

WTA Guangzhou Day 4 Predictions

Tatjana Maria vs Yulia Putintseva

Head-to-head: Putintseva 3-2 Maria

Although they’ve played five times before, the last one occurred in 2018 so the head-to-head is hardly helpful to predict how this matchup will go. The two players are very evenly matched and it’s very difficult to call a winner here but based on the form both showed this week so far it’s far to give a slight edge to Maria, whose level of play has been more impressive so far in this tournament.

Greet Minnen vs Lucia Bronzetti

Head-to-head: first meeting

Another very tight matchup, almost impossible to call. The fact the pair never faced before makes predictions even tougher here. Bronzetti has looked slightly sharper this week so far, so she has a slight edge going in but it will really come down to form on the day and potentially to execution in clutch moments.
Prediction: Bronzetti in 3

Xiyu Wang vs Viktoria Hruncakova

Head-to-head: Wang 3-0 Hruncakova

The pair faced recently at the US Open and it was a fight to the bitter end, with Wang prevailing 10-6 in the final set tiebreaker. Another very tight match is to be expected here and at some point you have to figure Hruncakova will get a win in this matchup. But getting it when Wang has home court advantage might be a bit too much to ask here.
Prediction: Wang in 3

Magda Linette vs Rebeka Masarova

Head-to-head: first meeting

The first seed will surely be eager to lift that trophy, but her route won’t be an easy one. Masarova certainly has more than enough game to trouble her despite a much lower ranking; with that said, although this is a very diffcult one to call just like every other quarterfinal here, Linette should be able to prevail in the end.
Prediction: Linette in 3
