Jannik Sinner at ATP Miami

Day 3 at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Toronto will feature plenty of exciting action, including a mouthwatering all-Italian matchup between Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner, as well as Andy Murray, who’s a three-time champion at the Canada Masters and still believes he can get back into big title contention. We predict all 15 matches on the schedule for you, split between four articles. Our other three articles feature Carlos Alcaraz vs Ben Shelton, Holger Rune vs Marcos Giron, and Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Gael Monfils. Who do you think will advance?

ATP Toronto Day 3 Predictions

Taylor Fritz vs Ugo Humbert

Head-to-head: Fritz 1-0 Humbert

Fritz might be Top 10 in the rankings, but his performance in the big events has been a letdown so far in 2023 despite some titles at smaller events, the most recent one being Atlanta a couple weeks ago. He’ll be looking to have a big run at a big event for a change and in theory he should be able to overpower Humbert in this second round matchup.
Prediction: Fritz in 2

Gabriel Diallo vs Alex de Minaur

Head-to-head: first meeting

Diallo scored an amazing first round win over Dan Evans, but the Brit was definitely tired (both physically and mentally) after winning the title in Washington. De Minaur will be a much sterner challenge for sure, especially as he looked to be in great shape in the first round against Norrie and reached the final in Los Cabos last week (lost to Tsitsipas). At this point in his career, Diallo is unlikely to have enough to challenge De Minaur even playing at home.
Prediction: de Minaur in 2

Max Purcell vs Andy Murray

Head-to-head: Murray 1-0 Purcell

Murray has been steadily climbing through the rankings but is yet to have a deep run at a big tournament. After Purcell upset Auger-Aliassime, though, the draw seems to be ideal for Murray to at least reach a first Masters 1000 last 16 round in 2023 and close in on a US Open seeding spot.
Prediction: Murray in 2

Matteo Berrettini vs Jannik Sinner

Head-to-head: first meeting

This is arguably the most enticing match of the day, with the two Italians battling it out. Berrettini has struggled with injuries and mental health lately, while Sinner has been rising but constantly hitting a wall deep in big tournaments, most recently at Wimbledon against Novak Djokovic. Sinner is clearly the better player currently, though, and on hard court he should have too many baseline weapons for his compatriot to handle.
Prediction: Sinner in 2
