Day 4 at the ATP event in Dubai will feature all four quarterfinal matches, with world #1 and 22-time Grand Slam winner Novak Djokovic heading a star-studded field that still has six of the eight seeds. Defending champion Andrey Rublev is also still in the draw, after barely escaping defeat Wednesday.
ATP Dubai Day 4 Predictions
Alexander Zverev vs Lorenzo Sonego
Head-to-head: Zverev 1-0 Sonego
Zverev’s form has looked much improved this week and he’ll be aiming to make his first semifinal appearance at Tour level since his injury at Roland Garros last year. Sonego is, however, also showing some very tenni himself, as shown by his victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime. On a hardcourt, though, Zverev should have the advantage, even at this point in his comeback.
Prediction: Zverev in 2
Botic Van de Zandschulp vs Andrey Rublev
Head-to-head: Van de Zandschulp 2-0 Rublev
Andrey Rublev is the defending champion at this tournament, but he only barely escaped Dadidovich Fokina and his level was far from impressive. In Van De Zandschulp he will face an opponent who beat him both times they faced previously and who has been playing at a decent level. Still, the Dutchman tends to struggle against top 10 players in general and Rublev should be able to get his first victory in this matchup here.
Prediction: Rublev in 2
Daniil Medvedev vs Borna Coric
Head-to-head: Coric 4-2 Medvedev
While the head-to-head suggests that Medvedev struggles in this matchup, those matches occurred before he became a consistent top player and shouldn’t have much bearing here. Medvedev comes into this tournament on the back of two consecutive titles and he has maintained his level this week. If logic prevails, Medvedev should notch his twelfth consecutive victory and book a mouthwatering semifinal encounter with Novak Djokovic.
Prediction: Medvedev in 2
Novak Djokovic vs Hubert Hurkacz
Head-to-head: Djokovic 4-0 Hurkacz
Hurkacz won the title last week in Marseille and should have a lot of confidence coming into this match, but Novak Djokovic is inevitable: the World #1 is again the man to beat on tour after a weird 2022 and is the clear favorite for every tournament he enters. Hurkacz would probably have to play a perfect match to stand a chance here.
Prediction: Djokovic in 2
