Day 3 at Adelaide should feature plenty of exciting action on the WTA side of things, with every player looking to fine tune their game and pick up some wins and confidence ahead of the first Grand Slam of the season in Melbourne next week. We also predict the rest of the day’s matches in a separate article.
WTA Adelaide Day 3 Predictions
Barbora Krejcikova vs Daria Kasatkina
Head-to-head: Krejcikova 1-0 Kasatkina
Krejcikova surprised everyone with her French Open 2021 title but hasn’t really been able to build on that since. Kasatkina had a strong 2022 and is ranked #8 but hasn’t had any outstanding results in the biggest tournaments. Both players will be hoping to have big breakthroughs in 2023 and a win here might kickstart that; it’s a very hard match to call with both players at similar levels.
Prediction: Krejcikova in 3
Danielle Collins vs Jil Teichmann
Head-to-head: Collins 1-1 Teichmann
Collins reached the Australian Open final last year, beating Iga Swiatek and only losing to Ash Barty. She’ll obviously be hoping to peak again next week and she seems to be in very good form, with an impressive first round win over Pliskova here in Adelaide. Teichmann won’t be an easy opponent but Collins should be able to prevail.
Prediction: Collins in 2
Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Veronika Kudermetova
Head-to-head: Kudermetova 2-1 Alexandrova
Both players had the best years of their careers in 2022 and Kudermetova even reached the Top 10, but they’re both yet to have a big result at Slam level and will be hoping to change that this year. This match here should be very tight, but Kudermetova starts as a slight favorite.
Prediction: Kudermetova in 3
Anna Kalinskaya vs Belinda Bencic
Head-to-head: Bencic 2-0 Kalinskaya
Their two previous matches were both on grass in 2022 and both were won by Bencic. On a hardcourt, the story should in theory not be very different. At 25, Bencic should be at the peak of her powers and will be looking to finally have a big breakthrough this season.
Prediction: Bencic in 2
