WTA Parma Day 2 Predictions
Tamara Zidansek vs Simona Waltert
Head-to-head: First meeting
2022 has been a sharp fall from grace for Tamara Zidansek. In 2021 the Slovenian won a title in Lausanne and made the semifinals of the French Open, culminating in a year-end ranking of #30. This year she has gone 4-6 on clay and is currently at risk of dropping out of the top 100 all together. She has a winnable first match here though as she faces Simona Waltert of Switzerland. Waltert has had a very good year at ITF level but has little WTA Tour experience to point to. That should be a crucial factor here as Zidansek looks to find her best form on clay in the final months of the year.
Prediction: Zidansek in 3
Nuria Parrizas Diaz vs Elisabetta Cocciaretto
Head-to-head: First meeting
Nuria Parrizas Diaz was the feel-good story of 2021 when she stormed to 7 Challenger and ITF titles and made serious waves on the WTA Tour at the young age of 31. The Spaniard hasn’t enjoyed the same level of success this year, but has managed to become a mainstay on the tour. She now faces Elisabetta Cocciaretto, a young Italian looking to cement her place inside the top 100 before the end of the year. Parrizas Diaz is a great clay court player but Cocciaretto is too and looks to have a lot of upside to her game. This one is tough to call, but I expect the young Italian draws on the home crowd and edges it.
Prediction: Cocciaretto in 3
Anna Bondar vs Mayar Sherif
Head-to-head: 1 – 1
This should be a great match to watch. Both Mayar Sherif and Anna Bondar have played good tennis over the last 18 months or so. They’ve also split the two meetings they’ve had in that space of time, both of which came on clay. Bondar is probably the better player of the two on this surface, but not by enough for it to be a deciding factor. However, her recent form in Budapest last week is enough to make me think she has the upper hand in this one. Sherif will make it tough, but I expect Bondar to come out on top in this one.
