Day 3 at the Laver Cup will decide the final outcome, with Team Europe only needing to split wins in order to claim the title for the 5th time in five editions of the tournament. Meanwhile Team World have very little margin for error as they need to win 3 of the 4 remaining matches to win the Laver Cup, an even more herculean task considering the likes of Novak Djokovic, world #2 Casper Ruud and world #6 Stefanos Tsitsipas will be playing singles for Team Europe.
ATP Laver Cup Day 3 Predictions
Matteo Berrettini and Andy Murray vs Jack Sock and Felix Auger-Aliassime
Head-to-head: first meeting
A match between two new pairs with no routines could go either way, but Sock is easily the best doubles player of the four and Team World absolutely need to score the 3 points here if they want to have any hope whatsoever of winning Laver Cup. They’ll play with urgency and likely claim the victory here.
Prediction: Sock and Auger-Aliassime in 2
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Frances Tiafoe
Head-to-head: Tsitsipas 3-2 Tiafoe
Although Tsitsipas leads the head-to-head, Tiafoe won two of their last three matches, one of them a straight set win at Wimbledon 2021 and the other a 3-set win in Vienna. He clearly knows how to trouble the Greek and will have his chances here in what also feels like a must win for Team World. Although Tiafoe faced much sterner opposition in Novak Djokovic, Tsitsipas looked far sharper in his singles match so far this weekend and will be the slight favorite for sure.
Prediction: Tsitsipas in 3
Casper Ruud vs Taylor Fritz
Head-to-head: first meeting
It’s very safe to say that if Fritz doesn’t win this match Team World has no chance whatsoever of winning Laver Cup. On a hardcourt, Fritz most definitely has the ability to do it and score his second singles victory of the weekend after beating Norrie Saturday.
Prediction: Fritz in 2
Novak Djokovic vs Felix Auger-Aliassime
Head-to-head: Djokovic 1-0 Aliassime
This one is, on paper, the most hopeless match for Team World. Their path to victory is likely to be losing this one, but winning the other three. Felix has the ability to beat anyone on a good day, but he hasn’t shown that kind of form in a while (including in his singles match against Berrettini today), while Djokovic looked in ominous form today in both singles and doubles. Felix will also play this match right after playing a must-win doubles match. Djokovic is a very strong favorite to win here.
Prediction: Djokovic in 2
