French Open Day 4 – Women’s Best Bets Featuring Daria Saville vs Petra Kvitova

Kvitova Stuttgart 2021

Second round matchups commence on Wednesday, Day 4 at the French Open. The bottom half of the women’s draw will be in action on day 4, the side that has already seen some notable upsets, including the exits of Ons Jabeur and Garbine Muguruza. I’m expecting to see some more upsets at the second round stage, let’s take a look at some of the best bets of the day where quite a few underdogs look appealing.

French Open Day 4 – Women’s Best Bets

Sorana Cirstea vs Sloane Stephens

Now that Sloane Stephens is through the first round of a Major, she is a greater threat than her recent poor form suggests. Stephens is notorious for raising her intensity at big events, especially Grand Slams. Stephens is very much capable of beating Cirstea, I’d rate her as the sight favorite in this spot, therefore I see clear value with the American. Stephens has a wonderful record at Roland Garros, a former finalist and also reached the second week a bunch of times. Stephens is the better player and there’s a good chance she will give a strong effort here.

Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Kaia Kanepi

Kaia Kanepi was lucky to escape with an upset win over Garbine Muguruza in the opening round. Kanepi was a point away from going down a set and a double break, which would have almost definitely ended in a loss for her. I’m not sure why Kanepi is such a strong favourite in this matchup, Beatriz Haddad Maia is a very consistent and reliable competitor and is especially strong on the clay. The Brazilian has the perfect mix of steadiness, strong movement and aggression to beat Kanepi in these conditions, Kanepi only needs to be slightly off her game to lose this one.

Maria Sakkari vs Karolina Muchova

Karolina Muchova is a classy player, the only thing holding her back over the last 12-18 months have been injuries. Sakkari is a fairly strong favourite in this spot, but that’s mainly due to winning form rather than actual capabilities. Muchova is very much capable in this matchup, if she plays her best, she will have a good chance at victory. Sakkari is a nervous favorite, especially on the big stage. There’s a lot of pressure on Sakkari this tournament, that could work against her in this tough matchup. There’s enough value there for me to suggest a play on the talented Czech.

Daria Saville vs Petra Kvitova

Daria Saville looks like a troublesome matchup for Petra Kvitova on red clay. Saville is a problematic matchup for Kvitova in general, the Aussie has a 3-1 head-to-head record over the Czech. Saville’s defensive skills and versatility can frustrate the Czech into errors, especially on a slower surface. Kvitova’s form has been poor throughout the clay court swing, poor enough to suggest an inconsistent performance is likely in this match, in which case Saville will be good enough to capitalize.

Recommended Selections:
Daria Saville ML – 2.5 units @ +179

Recommended selections are based on a 5-unit betting system where 1 unit is a minimum stake, and 5 units is the maximum stake.
