WTA Madrid Quarterfinal Best Bets Featuring Amanda Anisimova and Simona Halep

Simona Halep features amongst our WTA Madrid Day 3 Best Bets.

Wednesday’s line-up features quarterfinal matchups on the WTA side at the Mutua Madrid Open. A couple of interesting matchups are set as two-time former champion and the current favourite to win the tournament Simona Halep faces the 8th seeded Ons Jabeur. Meanwhile, Ekaterina Alexandrova faces Amanda Anisimova in a battle of two aggressive strikers. Sara Sorribes Tormo is also in action against the 12th seeded Jessica Pegula. Let’s take a look at some of the best bets for these matchups.

WTA Madrid Quarterfinal Best Bets

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs. Amanda Anisimova

Ekaterina Alexandrova was extremely lucky to get through a three hour plus marathon with Marie Bouzkova in the third round. I highly doubt Alexandrova will rebound with a strong enough performance to defeat a red-hot Amanda Anisimova. Anisimova has a great record in these types of matchups against hard hitting opponents, her ability to absorb pace and redirect it with power of her own is top class. This looks like a great matchup for Anisimova, and she seems to be in better shape than her opponent heading into this clash. I also think Anisimova is more likely to stand up on the big stage, Alexandrova never really has.

(12) Jessica Pegula vs. Sara Sorribes Tormo

I was surprised to see Jessica Pegula open as such a clear favourite over Sara Sorribes Tormo. The Spaniard looks underrated here, as she has been for the whole tournament. Sorribes Tormo has beaten three quality opponents this week, wins over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3 2-6 6-3, Naomi Osaka 6-3 6-1 and Daria Kasatkina 6-4 1-6 6-3. Clay has always been considered Sorribes Tormo’s best surface, the quicker conditions in Madrid are ideal as they still allow her to defend but strengthen her sometimes vulnerable groundstrokes. Clay has always been considered Pegula’s worst surface and I don’t trust her in this matchup, worth a shot at the Spaniard.

(8) Ons Jabeur vs. Simona Halep

Simona Halep is back! The way the Romanian is playing this week, she is the second best player on tour on a clay court, only Iga Swiatek could be seen as being above her. Halep’s odds this week haven’t reflected that status given her mediocre form to start the season. Expect the 2-time former champion to keep rolling in Madrid. Halep defeated Ona Jabeur earlier this year on a hard court in Dubai, a 6-4 6-3 win on a surface that favoured Jabeur. This is a bad matchup for Jabeur, she has to play extremely well to have any kind of chance. I’m surprised Halep isn’t a stronger favourite here; I can see her winning this match quite comfortably. Halep is too solid and disciplined in this matchup, especially on clay.

Recommended Selections:

Recommended selections are based on a 5-unit betting system where 1 unit is a minimum stake, and 5 units is the maximum stake.
