Wimbledon Day 3 Men’s Predictions Including Stan Wawrinka vs Reilly Opelka

Stan Wawrinka

Veterans Stan Wawrinka and Fernando Verdasco will face tough tests at Wimbledon day 3 with Wawrinka facing big serving American Reilly Opelka, while Verdasco battles British #1 Kyle Edmund. Our panelists Steen Kirby and Yesh Ginsburg offer their predictions. We also have predictions for matches featuring Milos Raonic, Feliciano Lopez, and Novak Djokovic.

Stan Wawrinka vs Reilly Opelka

Yesh: Stan Wawrinka looked strong in his opening match, but he has to face a very different type of test in the second round. The Wawrinka return should be strong enough to trouble Opelka, but this match could go in either direction. Wawrinka in 4

Steen: Wawrinka is not a good on grass and Opelka’s big serve presents a challenge on faster surfaces. Wawrinka is far more accomplished and experienced but I’ll back the young American who should score an upset to remember in round 2. Opelka in 4

David Goffin vs Jeremy Chardy

Yesh: David Goffin is so solid. He was his full consistent self in his first-round match, and there’s no reason to expect that to change in Round 2. Goffin in 3

Steen: Goffin hasn’t made much noise this season but he is playing well enough right now to see off Chardy and reach the third round, the hope for his supporters is that he can get back to playing the top 15 tennis he’s capable of. Goffin in 4

Kyle Edmund vs Fernando Verdasco

Yesh: Edmund struggled a bit to close out his first-round match against Jaume Munar, but he made it through in straight sets. He now gets to face Fernando Verdasco, but his consistent and powerful game should be enough to see off the Spaniard as well. Edmund in 4

Steen: Edmund will have home support and that should be enough against Verdasco, who is now on the wrong end of his career. At his best Verdasco was a top 10 player but Edmund should be the favorite now. Edmund in 4

Miomir Kecmanovic vs Benoit Paire

Steen: Kecmanovic is playing great tennis right now, perhaps the best of his career. Paire is a capable player but unreliable, and grass is not his best surface. Look for Kecmanovic to draw some attention with a second round win. Kecmanovic in 3

Yesh: Kecmanovic had a great week last week, reaching the final in Antalya. He had a walkabout first set on Monday, but was unstoppable when he turned things on. Now that he’s back in full form, he should be able to blow by Benoit Paire. Kecmanovic in 4
