Worcester Warriors dedicate Harlequins tie to Michael Fatialofa

Worcester Warriors have dedicated their home clash against Harlequins to currently injured player Michael Fatialofa, who suffered a serious neck injury earlier this season.

Warriors fund Fatialofa recovery

Since incurring a serious neck injury against Saracens on 4th January, Warriors lock Michael Fatialofa has been in intensive care, fully funded by the Warriors co-owners Colin Goldring and Jason Whittingham.

He spent a month in St Mary’s Hospital in London – the first three weeks in intensive care – but has now been moved to a specialist spinal unit at another hospital in Buckinghamshire

As such they will dedicate the game on April 11 to a day of fund-raising in aid of Fatialofa’s recovery.

Saracens have also contributed, raising nearly £7,000 in their match with Worcester since the incident.

Warriors in aid

“Michael’s situation, his courage and resilience and Tatiana’s remarkable support and love for him have touched the rugby community across the world,” said Warriors Managing Director Peter Kelly.

“As a club Warriors have done a lot behind the scenes to offer practical support for Michael and Tatiana in the difficult weeks that have followed Michael’s injury.

“Although Michael is making encouraging progress, the long-term prognosis is still uncertain but it is clear that Michael and Tatiana will require some significant financial support.

“By dedicating the Harlequins match as Fats Family Fun Day, Warriors supporters will have the opportunity to raise a sizeable sum of money and also show their love and support for Michael and Tatiana as members of the Warriors family.”

Further challenges on-field

The struggles of off-field matters will never be out shadowed by sport, but the Warriors find themselves in a tricky scenario, aided only by the automatic relegation of Saracens.

They sit tenth in the Gallagher Premiership, 13 points off the play-offs and having missed out on Challenge Cup knockout rugby, will have a lonely end to the season if their form doesn’t rise.

A structural build-up can be completed ahead of next season with safety acquired this year.

The recent confirmation that star centre Ryan Mills will be departing to Wasps ahead of next season is only to toughen the blow.
