Gloucester Rugby injury worries: the prop saga
Val Rapava Ruskin has returned to training ahead of the Castres following a period out with a rib injury. This could well provide a huge boost with Ruskin boasting experience at the highest level.
However, Ackermann also revealed that Alex Seville could be sidelined for up to four to six weeks following a calf tear. Further medical procedures are to follow to fully understand the extent of the problem.
Two Tom’s back in action
Lock Tom Savage has made his return from injury and will be competing for his spot in the squad once again and will strengthen the pool of tight five forwards. Savage has been out since pre-season where he suffered a knee injury against Ulster, but has made a rather quick turnaround with his rehab.
Tom Marshall will return to fight for the full back jersey as he returned to training this week. Tom Hudson currently holds the shirt with Woodward chasing him down. Marshall will provide excellent competition for them both and will help Gloucester compete in the long run after returning from a shoulder injury.
Ackermann insists that Gareth Denman is out long term and this last week has begun his first running in his rehabilitation, but will be back before the end of the season.
Back row woes sound the alarm
Ruan Ackermann remains out and will be back in around three to four weeks. A knee injury against Saracens has sidelined him for several weeks now. Ackermann senior doesn’t expect him back until early November where he’ll look to regain his spot in the squad once again.
Jaco Kriel remains out of match action, but was in the last training session. This also follows Lewis Ludlow’s citing decision which rules him out of the game on Sunday with a four week ban. Ackermann insists the team have prepared for an eventuality without him and are in a good place no matter the outcome of his hearing.
