Conor Murray has signed a new deal with the IRFU which will ensure the two-time British & Irish Lion remains in Ireland until 2022.

Munster delight with Conor Murray re-signing
A Munster man through-and-through, the Limerick native has committed his long-term future to the province. Despite current injury problems, the 29-year-old is a key figure in both the Munster and Irish set-up.
“Over the past few seasons I’ve enjoyed great days in the green of Ireland and red of Munster. I love playing here and look forward to making more life long memories in the next few years.
It was a pretty easy decision really, it didn’t take long for me to decide. It’s the place I grew up, watching Munster play and wanting to play for Munster”.
Having made his Munster debut against Connacht in 2010, Murray has gone on to win 116 caps with the province, but only winning the Celtic League title once in 2011. It has been a trophy-less period for the province since then, something which Murray and Munster will hope to put right in the coming seasons.
A World Class Figure
Conor Murray has been and continues to be a key figure in the Irish set-up. With eyes firmly set on Japan in just under 12 months time, Schmidt will be hoping that he can overcome his injury problems and guide Ireland to unchartered territory at the World Cup.

Key Part of Irish Success
Murray has played a crucial role in many of Ireland’s historic victories, including the memorable win over New Zealand in Chicago in 2016. Having started every game of Ireland’s 2018 Grand Slam winning season, as well as all three tests on a winning Australia tour, his experience and commitment to Irish Rugby is invaluable. Speaking on the contract extension, IRFU performance director David Nucifora described Murray as a “world class player”.
“He has illustrated this through the consistent quality of the performances he delivers for both Ireland and Munster. He has played a central role in driving the success that has been achieved at national level, and we are delighted that he will continue to play his rugby in Ireland for at least the next three seasons”.
Speaking on his injury, Murray said: “There’s been a lot said about it. I’m back on the pitch and I’m training with the lads so hopefully sooner rather than later I’ll be able to put on the jersey again”.
Murray will miss the opening round of the Champions Cup against Exeter Chiefs this weekend, but if recovery goes well, we could see him back on the pitch sooner than expected.
