The Premiership season is rushing up on us. It is time to start dusting off our rugby hats and ready our analytical pads to watch the teams go head to head. Last season there were a few players that came to the forefront of the Premiership scene. Its time to discuss those who may have caught your eye and the Premiership players to watch this season.
Kahn Fotuali’i
Maybe not a new choice for the die hard rugby fans but certainly one that deserves to be on all “greatest” lists. Fotuali’i was a rock for Bath in the 16/17 season, spurring Bath Rugby to a fifth place finish in the Premiership. He was top of the charts for the amount of passes making over 1,128. It would be interesting to see if Bath can carry on their momentum in to the up-coming season.
Don Armand
Don has been at Exeter Chiefs since 2013 and really broke through last season. As an Exeter lock, he played a pivotal role in Exeter’s clockwork forward pack. After a packed 16/17 season Armand Played himself to a Man Of The Match performance in Exeter’s trophy winning final match. Armand earned himself his first England cap on the 10th of June coming on in the second half against Argentina, a game they went on to win 34 – 38.
Joe Marchant
A player that we were excited to watch play last season. Marchant has been in the background at Harlequins since 2013, but in the past season he played some beautiful rugby, picking excellent running lines. He has shown that he has the rugby knowledge and speed to be a creative try scorer, all he needs is a solid team backing him. Quins managed to keep a 6th place last season, if they play more of the rugby we know they can play, they’ll be moving up the table this season.
Jamie George
Of all the Saracens players we could have picked, we have chosen J.G.. Players like Itoje, Farrel and Billy Vunipola certainly do deserve to be on here but those players are stand out to anyone. George is a hooker who has been on form almost all of the season. Since 2009 he has made over 150 caps for Saracens being a pivotal part in last seasons campaign for Sarries. To top it all off, George had a successful Lions tour playing in all three Test matches in which the Lions drew the series 1-1 with New Zealand.
Elliot Daly
Yet again, you could name many Wasps players to be on this list but we have chosen Daly because after watching him for the years he has been at the Wasps, this year he has really shown all of that progression and come in to the team as a vital player. Whether it is kicking from the halfway line or getting the needed 4th try against Saracens to clinch Wasps the home Semi-final, he will always give 100% and an added flair. An added bonus to his bucket list is being picked for the Lions tour where he played all three Tests against New Zealand and also bagging himself 3 points in the final Test, making him the only player to score for and against the Lions.
