Two more spots were claimed Sunday for the 2023 Final Four, as the San Diego State Aztecs and the Miami Hurricanes are headed to Houston to join Florida Atlantic and Connecticut to play for the title. And, host T.J. Rives is back to go over it all with his guests on the newest “College Basketball Coast to Coast.”
First, T.J. weighs-in on the controversy at the end of SDSU game with Creighton, as Darrion Trammell of the Aztecs was fouled and hit the winning free throw with :01 left? Should the call have been made/was Creighton robbed of legit chance to win in overtime? Hear his take.
Then, he welcomes ESPN’s Mark Wise back to the show to discuss that call and whether it was correct to help get San Diego State to Houston? Mark gives further insight into why the Aztecs are moving on and also, has more on Miami’s tremendous weekend in the Midwest Regional. That’s where they ended up defeating top seed Houston and 2 seed Texas in back to back games. Their coach Jim Larranaga takes another team to the Final Four for the first time ever, as he did 17 years ago with George Mason.
On that subject, T.J. welcomes the George Mason p x p voice Bill Rohland back to reminisce about how the Patriots did it in ’06 stunning UConn with Larranaga at the helm. Now, 17 years later he does it with Miami and he’s playing….UConn again, on Saturday in Houston.
Bill has great insight on Larranaga’s personality and treatment of others that has helped him now make two improbable runs into the Big Dance. It won’t be easy for the ‘Canes but they are still alive in this wacky NCAA basketball 2023 tourney!
