Coming up on Thursday night there’s some intriguing college basketball action all over the country and we had some great breakdown of the latest “Three Dog Thursday” podcast from the Last Word on Sports Podcast Network.
Host TJ Rives returns with handicappers to go over a bunch of Super Bowl 57 talk for the game Sunday between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Thursday Night College Basketball: Pooches Galore!
However, there are some, immediate, very interesting “pooches” on the college hardwood for Thursday night.
That includes handicapper Ian Cameron of Pub Sports Online zeroing in on a Sunbelt conference match up between Arkansas State,10-15, 2-10, and Texas State, 11-14, 4-8. This is revenge for the Red Wolves as they travel to San Marcos, Texas as a significant 7.5 doggie against the Bobcats. While neither of these teams are obviously contending for the conference, it appears right for Arkansas State to at least keep it close, if not avenge an earlier season loss 61-58 two Texas State.
TJ comes back with another similar “revenge hound,” as the UAB Blazers, 17-7, 8-5, travel to North Texas, 19-5, 10-2 to battle the Mean Green in Conference USA action. Similar to the play above, North Texas won the first meeting between the two teams 63-52 in Birmingham. But, the Blazers played without one of the top scoring guards in the country Jordan ‘Jelly” Walker in that first meeting.
Walker is now mostly healthy off an ankle injury and will play in this game Thursday night in Denton, Texas. UAB is also looking to solidify its spot near the top of the conference with North Texas as one of its chief rivals. And, the short money has already begun to come in on UAB, as the opening line of 4 points is already down to – 2.5 for North Texas to be favored by mid-Thursday afternoon.
The most prominent game discussed on the show/podcast is the Big Ten’s top team, Purdue, 22-2, 11-2, returning home to face Iowa, 15-8, 7-5, this evening. The Boilermakers are still stinging from their loss to rival Indiana in Bloomington Saturday afternoon. And, now, Purdue must refocus as an 8-point favorite against Iowa.
Once again, this line opened at 9.5 and has already been bet down a point and a half by Thursday afternoon. Will the Hawkeyes led by guard Kris Murray have something for the nation’s top big man, 7 ‘ 5” monster Zach Edey and his teammates?
