NASCAR: Cup race postponed to Monday

NASCAR postponed Sunday’s YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, due to relentless rain. It now starts Monday at 1 p.m. ET.

Call in sick, tomorrow, if you still have days off. NBCSN will carry the television broadcast, while MRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio carry the radio broadcast.

It’s the fourth Cup Series race postponed, this season, and the first since Martinsville in April.

Rain pelted the track all morning, but let up by race time. The cars rolled onto the grid, fired engines, and turned a few pace laps. Just as the field made its pit speed lap, however, the sky opened up. Thus, NASCAR brought the field back down pit road and postponed it.

Starting 6th on the grid, Martin Truex Jr., stated “I always hate these days. I just want to get in and go. Still thinking about the same things as we were this morning and last night. … Hopefully, stay at the front and get some stage points, and hopefully be running at the end. That’s always the first goal.”

Daniel Suarez commented on the delay and what he thinks ahead of the now-Monday race, “Let’s see what happens. Hopefully tomorrow, we can make it happen, but something is for sure — there’s going to be a lot of excited drivers tomorrow. So if today was going to be crazy, tomorrow is going to be crazier, so looking forward to it.”

Denny Hamlin will lead the field to green, Monday.
